Does anyone have one of them? I’m curious if that matte surface around the lens makes any difference.

At first I thought…awesome! Then I realized the awful truth. They literally took a small zoomie and wrapped a large barrel around it, so that it has TWO lenses to absorb light. The outer lens presumably is not aspheric at all and doesn’t DO anything.
I think the entire light concept was just to trick fools into getting it because it looks more substantial than many other styles.
I’m not sure.
The matte ring may well be translucent, there might even be some kind of reflector behind it.
Side spill turned in to flood in stead of just wasting it in the head.
Some possibilities:
- These lights might really have a single large aspheric, but it just isn’t coming through in the pictures. I’ve occasionally seen pictures of other lights where the image wasn’t clear.
- Perhaps these lights are using a “reflector-lens” setup similar to LED Lensers. In an LED Lenser, the lens has a small aspheric in the center surrounded by a TIR. It’s all one piece, but when you look at it from the outside, the lens looks very similar to these pictures: a small aspheric surrounded by an inward sloping TIR optic. I’d be very surprised if budget lights had this level of engineering though.
- Perhaps these lights have 2 lenses: a small one around the emitter surrounded by a much large one on the outside. Perhaps what appears to be a tiny aspheric is actually just the inner lens.
- Perhaps these lights really do just have a small aspheric lens and would appear to be a very inefficient design.

That one with the handle look like the worst implementation of “slap a handle on the sucker and see if it sells” absolutely the worst fit/finish I’ve seen in a long time. If they treat the outside like that what horrors are out of sight on the inside?
