Just recieved badly damaged Wallbuys flashlight, how bad is this?

I got this yesterday and it seems in terrible shape, and is definitely not new, how bad is this, and would it be accounting for a faint flickering?

What does someone do in a case like this?

I'm not here to defend wallbuys, but how big is that driver?

For me ,that is not really badly damaged.

Especially considering its on the inside of the light....

Looks like someone has tried to remove the PCB. A baby werewolf perhaps…

This usually happens if the driver is press-fit and not retained by the ring. If the light turn on it is not causing any electronic issue, you can either chip off the broken part and see if the light still works (most probably it will work without a problem). I wouldnt bother sending it back to china for just that, because then I wont have neither the money nor the light. just my 0.02

It’s not that bad but you should ask for small compensation for that defect.

As Chloe said, seems like a returned light after someone had tried to open it.

If you did it I’d say don’t worry too much about it.

Definitely tell them about it and see how they react.
You didn’t order a light with a damaged contact plate in the description.

looks like a SS ZY-T08.

the ants ate it

No big deal. Don’t worry about it. It’s just superficial. A bit of the laminated cladding separated while being press fit, or when it was snapped off the tree they come attached to. It doesn’t affect anything.

I received a flawed SS ZY-T08 from WB in Jan. Screw heads were blunted and contact board partially sink in with scratches.

I have been hearing these replies, “No big deal”, “I’m fine with” or “I can fix it myself” over and over. These will only encourage them to dump BLF buyers with more flawed/ rejected goods in future. I am sure they have WB people listening to all our BLF discussion.

Why do you think these Chinese lights are so cheap? You’re never going to to get Fenix quality control with a low end mass produced light.

Buying cheaper materials is one thing, but a company mailing out damaged goods is another.

This light should never have been sold as new.

You said badly damaged, how bad is this?

And I replied that it's not Badly damaged...

I would still try to get some compensation... but that's Not badly damaged.. have seen worse, which I did still not classify as badly.

+1

David (Fenix) is fussy about quality control.

Loose threads or a couple messed up spots in the ano are one thing, they’re acceptable. That’s a fair amount of damage to one of the main components of the light. I’d either ask for a partial refund or for them to pay for the return shipping (after a replacement gets to you).

I agree buying these budget lights we have to expect lower quality and accept that or even some damage to the the finish during shipment but that was there when they packaged it up and sent it to you, that shouldn’t be something we have to accept. I also agree with freeme.

I’d rather have that than messed up anodizing or a reflector with fingerprints. I’d just leave as is or peel it off. It’s inside the light, and affects nothing.

I too would return the light right away if the anodizing is anything less than perfect, but this is probably just a chipping off and does no harm to anything whatsoever. Chinese workers are overworked and they still try to produce such standards that we are just becoming more and more nit picky about it.

Open a ticket with them…show them the pictures…explain to them the flickering

If they have you ship it back…well do it, tell them you want a new one in return…you shouldn’t get damaged goods even for wholesale prices

This is why I like fasttechs customer service…I have had 1/2 dozen issues…they have taken care of it NO QUESTIONS ASKED even refunded shipping to the Miami Fl address for the return

Yeah…inexpensive is nice…until something goes wrong…this is where good Chinese wholesalers customer service separates the peddling cheap Chinese crap from the actual good reputable wholesaler companies

This is also why I use paypal…if the company won’t make it right…file with paypal and have them refund your money…
(Caveat Emptor) Buyer beware…unless you have paypal on your side

IMO it looks to have been damaged when someone tried to press fit that driver in.

If someone were to attempt to pry the driver out -> is there any reason why one wouldn’t attempt it from one of those notches? (real question to the modders)

It looks like it might be the snap point for the PCB (routing/drill holes [notice the rough break points…there are 4 of them 90 degrees apart, this coinsides with one of those snap points]) and an assembler tried to use a flat tip screwdriver to peen/drive the driver in causing it to crack the board…no telling the damage on the other side (popped solder joints, separated traces)
