Fenix TK45

I just recieved a TK45 a few days ago.I like the light but this thing is just begging for some NW XPG-2s.I did a quick search but couldn’t find where anyone has had this thing apart. Is there anyone here that knows how to get this thing apart and what size the stars are?Thanks!-Rick

Aint that light like light years old :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, it’s an older light.I like it though, nothing really like it.I thought I would get one in case Fenix discontinued it.Has anyone gotten one apart?

Maybe swapping the leds for 3 XML’s would make that a heck of a light…I don’t know though. The experts here can estimate the gains in lumes from going from the XP-G? to the XM-L.
Would be nice to know of the theoretical bump in lumens though!

I would NOT swap for XM-L or XM-L2 LEDs in the TK45:

  • At those drive levels (sub 2A) luminous flux is about the same
  • Fenix TK45 already is a floody light, but with a FABULOUS beam profile that is very useful and has a tad of throw for general/exploration/security use

I have the same flashlight and like it, and I too plan to upgrade it with either neutral white Cree XP-G2 or Nichia 219B.

It will be challenging to find LEDs already mounted on 10mm round PCBs which TK45 uses (I already tried), so you either can ask this ebay seller to make some custom for you, or give a chance to reflowing LEDs onto original stars (or new stars, in which case I would upgrade with the nice copper sinkpads sold by the previously linked seller).
You can get both Nichia 219B and XP-G2 at intl-outdoor.

or put three red emitters and aspheric lens in to make it like this:

NW XPG2’s are what I want.Don’t want brighter or to change the beam pattern.10mm stars…damn. Those won’t be easy to find in copper with the emmiters I want.Mabey I will(or pay someone…RMM?) to just reflow the XPG2’s onto the original stars. At this drive current copper isn’t really needed I guess. How did you get to the emmiters?-Rick

I can’t see your picture? :frowning:

If the TK45 is so great/in demand, why does fenix not update this ‘line up’ with newer leds like XP-G2 or something?

An updated model should also be driven a little harder.

With the 8XAA setup that should not be a problem? I remember when I first discovered the flashlight world and saw beam shots of a TK45 compared to maglites and anamic 2AA etc cells, my jaws dropped.
