My smallest cheapest thrower.

I picked up four of these off of evil bay for $3 each. Supposed to be a 14500 Q5 with a side switch. I got the first one in today and as I had finished all my mods for other people I decided today I would do something silly and just for the fun of it. This is the light.

So I'm expecting the typical XR-E Q5 that is in all the cheap lights, but instead it has an XP-E. The driver is a three mode. High Low Blinky off and you must cycle through them. It is also one of the goofy charger ones. The sense resistor was right there begging to be bypassed so I did that as well as put heavier wires on and did a spring mod while I was at it.

The pill was hollow, not a big surprise. So what I did was de-domed and reflowed the XP-E onto a sinkpad and filed it down so it fit into the pill really snug. I then put my new thermal paste on it (Omegathermal 201) and and put it all back together. I popped in a e-fest IMR 14500 fully thinking that the emitter would last all of two seconds. To my surprise it didn't go poof. It's still a very cool white but not blue tint anymore because of the de-dome. I'm getting right at 300 lumens although I would swear it's a whole lot more. Also it's 25kcd and again I would swear it's a whole lot more. The reflector is just a cheap plastic one, but it's deep for the size of the light. It's easily throwing as far as a good C8. I does get hot fast on high so the thermal transfer must be pretty good.

So anyway with the sinkpad, copper mesh and solder I'm right at a whole whopping $5 for this little thrower with a side switch! Easily my best $5 light.

Never seen that model.

Only found them from this one guy and he doesn’t have any more listed. They were auctions and I bid on a bunch of them but only won four. My max bid was four bucks and I got outbid on the others. I pretty much just bought them as a host but I was nicely surprised by the one I got anyway.

these are cool lights. I have the same light only in SmallSun version and a Black finish. The one i have though came with its own USB cable and charging port opposite of the side switch, and also has a XP-E emitter.

Mjêh, can’t find ’em under $9.— shipped here…
You had a good deal there.

pretty decent little light to mod, looks like its going to be hard to find there are a plenty of lights named mini cree q5 led torch flashlight.

This also has the charging port but it didn’t come with the cable. They look like a Xeno clone. It’s hard to believe how tiny that XP-E is when it’s de-domed.

Probably why he stopped auctioning them off.

Let me guess direct link to the battery? 3.5mm spade plug? Would need one of those TP4056 charge modules NOT to blow your battery out the back of the thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Got any pics of the internals…what is the diameter of the driver? (would an OSHPark DD work in it?)

Really digging how small it is…

Yep not a charger I would use for sure.

It’s a pretty good sized driver actually probably about 18mm. There is some extra room considering it needs the space for the charger.

It has an internal charger (circuitry and all)? Or inside the clicky module does the + terminal have a L shaped peice of metal going right to the + battery spring

This was the click module inside the (alot bigger) Ultrafire 535 I got a while back

note top left the L shaped piece of metal attached to the + pin of charging port, goes right to the + hat looking thing that is connected right to the battery (sorry for my craptastic pics)

And dangit on 18mm…uggh…why can’t they stick with normal size drivers so we can slap in some OSHPark customs

Would like some pics of the internals if you feel up to it

i have never used the 3.5mm / USB charger yet. I should take it apart to see if it is direct-to battery connected.

It’s not set up like that one. I have seen that one before as well. On this one the driver has the plug on one side and the switch on the other. It’s a little clicky switch right on the driver itself.

When I get the next batch in I’ll take some pics for you. I don’t feel like ripping this one apart.

It’s really not bad that it’s 18mm that is plenty easy to build up from a smaller driver. What is the killer is when you have a small driver like the SK68 not much you can do with that. But it’s easy to make a small driver bigger. Just make a ring out of copper and solder it around the small driver to make it bigger.

Ah ok…kinda like the SolarStorm drivers/pill, the clicky is mounted 90 degrees on the board

True on the 17mm to 18mm…

Well…unless you have Eagle masters like Mattaus and others that can take a 17mm board and make it 15mm

Yep just like that, 90 degrees and right on the board. Not a bad design for what it is.

I have shaved down many a driver as well, it’s just that you can’t go too far with it.

Very nice mod, I like those small throwers a lot and they make the perfect EDC for me.

But hey, you should have asked for permission, you're moving into my exclusive territory (small cheap hotrod throwers):

oooooh! I have the cheaper versions of your SpiderFire 16340 Ultrafire 602C running XP-G at 1400mA…Thru some 10degree TIR’s

Quite surprised at the light it throws!

That’s not bad at all.

Also cool mods, above. (Stay off my lawn)lol
