Looking for EDC 18350 host

Hey Everyone

Lately I have been looking into the realm of super high output EDC lights.

Currently my eyes are set on a DIY xml2 @2.8A in the fabled Ulrafire 602c host.

I chose this host because it’s small, readily available and ridiculously cheap!

However, the 602c has its limitations. For one the heatsinking on this thing is quite lacking and it can only take 16340’s (18350’s are only slightly bigger and have much better capacity).

So my question is, are there any budget hosts (or flashlight that are easily moddable) that are in the 18350 form factor and with better thermal management?

Thankyou

Hi,

Unless you’re talking about a different light, an 18350 won’t fit in a 602C like this one:

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10002463/1198401-ultrafire-602c-diy-led-flashlight-host-with

It does take 16340/CR123A though, and it is a nice small host.

Yep, hence my query.

If the 602c could fit an 18350 I probably wouldn’t be asking for an alternative

Why not just go with this 18650 host? About 3cm longer but you’ll get more runtime than using 16340 or 18350. This is another one S3 host.

It seems like there was a thread asking similarly (deja vu) a few days ago… not sure if this was the one:

My thinking is that I already have a fair few 18650 lights and thus I’d like to expand to other EDC form factors, mostly because I go hiking a fair bit and the reduced size and weight are greatly beneficial.

The s5 does look very similar to the 602c, however for what it is, it’s quite expensive. It’s substantially bigger than the 602c but weighs the same. If I was going to spend ~$15 on a host I think a convoy m1 or m2 would be better well spent.

However, my goal still remains to have an EDC light smaller than your typical 18650 form factor.

Solarforce L2M will do 16340/18350 without extension and 18650 with it

Thanks for the suggestion

I just did a quick google search and the L2M appears to be a very well made light that comes with an extension tube.

I saw lighthound sells them for $13, that’s very cheap already but are there any cheaper vendors?

i am looking exactly the same thing but unfortunately 18350 hosts are limited

SolarForce L2M might be cheaper here:

I’m interested in using 18350’s instead of the 16340 if possible in my Solarforce L2 series flashlights. Did they work? I have a bunch of 18650’s pulled from old laptop battery packs but if I’m going to use rechargeables I’d prefer to buy some 18350’s than 16340’s assuming the price is about the same.

And the Solarforce L2M is on sale for $10.99 from Solarforce sales

18350 work just fine in the tube. I’ve built a few L2M’s. If you get the Sportac triple XP-G dropin and remove the lens in the L2M’s head and set the dropin under the bezel. You’ll have enough room for 18500’s

Do you have a link for the L2M @ $10.99?

Thanks,
Jim

host only, usually $2 shipping

—edited to add http://www.solarforceflashlight-sales.com/product_detail.php?t=FA&s=16&id=199 — just the battery tube if you already have a typical solarforce host. The description says cr123/16340, but on mine at least, 18650s (various panasonic, sanyo) slip through easily.

— edit edit… I tried the above battery tube with a keeppower 18350 and parts from an L2N, and it works/looks great

I have this, it does not have a model # on it, so don’t know what to call it.

Anyway it uses the 16340 with slop and holds the 18350 just fine.
Would not call it Ultra High output, it is rated at 600 lumens, beam looks good lots of flood.
Mine has memory even though FT says no, so ymmv.

For $18.29 it is nice, good clean glass lens with gitd o-ring and good output.
How much can you mod it? That will be up to you I guess.

I keep saying I want to most light I can get out of the Solarforce P60 but I think a triple XP-G is overkill. It must be quite bright. How long can you run it before it starts to fad? Do you have a link to pictures of the how much light is OTF?
