This store had a brand new display of the old Defiant 5C. CREE XM-L and 625 Lumen.
The display lists them for $24.98, but they scan for $9.88

They also had an almost full display of the $3.00 drill bits. Lower layer is full, untouched, and the top layer is only missing 6 units.

I got 3 drill bit sets, and while I was getting them for the price, I decided to get a driver bit set as well.

These are awesome! Even for the full price of $4.88, they are still a lot better than anywhere else. I searched around and while I found sets that were fairly reasonable, the HDX set was always the best deal. Now even better! Although they break rather easily, they drill very well!

These sets seem to be well thought-out. They were thinking and they put in multiples of the smaller sizes.

Also the cases are really good to, and they look really nice! They have a rubber backing so they don’t slide around.
After you use all the drill bits, you can hack the case and reuse it for other things.

So for the price of one Ryobi set (which was also a good deal) on sale (as it always seems to be) I got three HDX drill bit sets. And for the price of a Ryobi set at retail price, I got four sets!

^

I picked up a couple sets too and a bunch of other items they have marked down. Thanks for the alert dchomak!

Also, got a really nice door lock (was discounted to about $56 at one point) for a penny.  I don't know what the lock originally sold for.

I’m jealous ImA4, I have not found any penny deals lately. I was following those power strips that were actually ringing up at 52 cents even though they were marked $1.04

I KNEW they would go to a penny at any time, and they did. It’s just that I happened to miss it.

The same day I picked up a $3 drill set I got a large can of WD40 for $2

Last year I found a brand new 40V Li-Ion battery in the recycle bin. I posted a tear down of it in Look what I found in the recycle bin

It’s a big one with 20 – 18650’s in it. The battery was in perfect condition and after the tear down I put it aside hoping that some day I could come across the tool and charger that it went with.
Last week I was in Warwick, RI I noticed this deal and took a snapshot of it.

At the time I thought it was for the 18V string trimmer in the picture. While that would have been a great deal, I wasn’t interested as I already have a 24V version that I posted about in this HD thread earlier. To my horror, yesterday while I was in West Springfield, MA I realized I was wrong. The deal was for the 40V version, the version that uses the same battery that I found in the recycle bin last year.

That store had sold out. On the way home I stopped in 2 other HD’s, including my hometown store and they too had sold out! I missed it, right out from under my nose! Oh the depression, but then I found comfort in knowing that actually I didn’t actually NEED it. Looking at it that way, I saved $40. Hey that’s good, right?
Well today I went back to my hometown HD to pay my credit card bill at the service desk. I always look forward to that because by paying the bill in person at the service desk it puts me right next to the battery recycle bin. Smile I reached in and pulled out a brand new 18V Ryobi drill pack. Smile After I paid my bill I took my pack and headed out to the car. Then I remembered the 40V string trimmer deal Sad I went from a little euphoria over the free 18V drill pack back to depression. Soooo, I went back in. Even though yesterday I checked the isle and found that they had sold out, I went back to the service desk and asked them to check for stock on that item. The girl said that they had 2, all other stores were out! To make a long story short, I ended up with a complete unit. I got the display unit and the charger and battery was stored in a Rubbermaid tub pushed under one of the shelves in gardening. Smile

Once again I felt euphoric, after over a year, I finally found the tool and second battery and charger that goes with the battery I found in the recycle bin.
A little later I felt sad again, I just spent $40 on something I didn’t really need.
But wait! I can now use that second battery pack as the power supply for a BIG light I am planning on building. And NOW I have the charger for it, YES!
7.5 inch reflector, Cree CXA3590 36V emitter, buck-boost driver, and SK68 for scale.

HAPPY AGAIN, this time to stay!

BTW, for anyone else to have any kind of chance to get this deal you would HAVE to check ASAP. Like tomorrow morning.

wtf, who idiot keeps throwing brand new batteries away? |( what a waste!

Why did you buy something you didn’t need?
Why didn’t you use that 40v battery you had to make your light, and buy a charger or make a charger for it?

Really I can stop anytime Wink

Back to home depot and came upon this three bulb led 3C defiant light 850 Lumens floody light for 9.88.

3 Hour run time with 3 modes High low and strobe.

Seems solid and very well built without being too heavy and just right to have in the car or to walk the dog.

I’ll try to add a picture later.

They also had a dozen of the ryobi string trimmers but for $80.00 not $40.00, isn’t that strange…

Maybe they were not the 40V string trimmers. They cleared out in the stores in RI, MA and CT that I was in and they were cleared out at some MO stores that a friend checked. All at $40 for the 40V version. I also saw 20V Black and Decker string trimmers on clearance for $75.06. If those last this round of clearance, they will be priced again at around $25.03

That flashlight you bought is good just the way it is. I wouldn’t try to mod it.

I didn’t mention this, but when that girl in gardening pulled that tub out from under the shelf, I spied another 40V pack in there. There was also a 56V pack for another brand. Those 2 packs could someday end up in the recycle bin. Silly

Not only that one but this 56V string trimmer is on clearance at $55.03

It comes with the battery and charger and the battery is a monster

The store I was in had 3, new in the box. I grabbed 2, not for myself but for others.

In other news

I found the big can of WD40 for a penny, it was $2.02 as I posted a couple of days ago
And I came across this.
Eight of the automatic light control units. Last month I got some at the “3” price. That was a good deal, but by now I knew they should be a penny.

These were squeezed in between some light fixtures, a place they wouldn’t normally be and the got missed when it was time for an employee to pull them. I was in that isle gathering some electrical parts when I spotted them. I wasn’t going to be piggy about it so I only grabbed 5. After I self checked out and went outside I realized that I forgot to get cable staples so I went back in, got the staples and picked up the other 3 Smile

Damn, you've been on a terror as of late.  I've been hitting my closest HD playing weed wacker-a-mole with no success.

I have some items in my sights that should hit a penny soon, but I bet they will disappear just before they should hit a penny.  I did find one of those 12v Rigid Li-ion packs you alerted us to (An awesome find).  Someone must have hid it and then forgot about.  It, unfortunately, rang up for $42. Tomorrow is Saturday. You should hit the nearest store in morning. There are at least 3 string trimmers on clearance now, the 40V Ryobi, 20V Black and Decker and the big 56V EGO

EDIT:
The 15” EGO string trimmer is on clearance, NOT the 12”

Interesting… I wonder what Dave is up to Silly

I would recommend using plastic NM staples . I don’t like metal staples; they hurt the wire more, you have to worry about how far you’re hammering it, and they are hard to remove.

Staples are used to hold the wire in place, you do not need to pound them in like a nail……..the top of the staple does not even have to be in contact with the wire.

Both kinds of staples are available and both kinds are used.
The most important thing is that I went back in and got those other 3 light controllers. Wink

Well, according to The Hitch hike r’s Guide to the Galaxy , 42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. The Universe is calling, What more do you need?
Get your butt over to HD!

BTW, that 40V Ryobi pack contains 10 pairs of 18650 cells in series. When fully charged, 10 * 4.2V = 42 Volts. Wink

The newer Electrical codes require insulated staples only- can’t legally use the others but I still do with minor un-inspected work on old houses where they are already everywhere else. I think they change codes just to have something to do sometimes.

And thanks for the fish.

Usually no but sometimes you need the staple to hold the wire like when it enters a box that doesn’t have its own clamps.
I think the metal staples are harsher on the wire and are more likely to damage it when the wire is pulled through.
