I checked those 12 UPC codes at a store in Midwest City, OK. Seven of them came up for a penny and 5 came up at a discounted cost.

I just scored one on the east coast at $38.02!

I dunno where I’m gonna put it, and I barely got it in my Equinox but I got one.

All 3 employees involved with getting it down from the top rack and checked out wanted to know how I managed to find it and know that it was on clearance. The cashier (I tried to self checkout but it had no barcode) looked long and hard, triple checking the SKU since it had a $149 price on the top.

Wheeeeeee!

Thanks!

I didn’t check for stock on the store’s system. Customers in this area regularly clean things out by the time they get to the “6” price and the stores around here are very efficient at removing penny items before customers can get to them. I’ve taken to scanning the crusher area to see if any items are in carts awaiting crushing that might be grabbed by an artful dodger but the efficiency seems to carry over to that area as well. The only way to get a penny deal around here is if something has been “misplaced” in the stacks.

GREAT first post ‘Rob! And I LOVE the avatar.

Yeah, that cart caught my attention at $75.04. Last week the day before I left on my little trip there was 1 in the overhead at my hometown store. That day it still was priced at $75.04
Could be 38.02 by the time I get back. I would jump on that price too.
That particular model you got has a hardwood top insert, very nice

Thank you.

I just came from another HD store. Their in-store price check app said they had 2 in inventory at $38.02. An associate spent almost an hour searching the entire store for it. Couldn’t find it though Sad

Made it to the Utica, New York HD today looking for the Rolling Work Bench.
They checked and did not have stock and checked stores in the area and non had any in stock.

I do not know how far they could search but I think it’s in the 50 to 100 mile range.

On my trip back to CT from OH I went via Up State NY. I found 4 of the 100 piece Husky socket sets at $13.02 each and 6 of the 28 piece Combination
Wrench sets at $5.02 each

I stopped at 7 stores, these were the only ones to have either. These 2 stores were about 200 miles apart. I found the Socket sets first and had them check stores in the area for the combination wrenches, none in the area.

I didn’t dare look for the rolling workbench, I would not have had room for it in my car anyway. Actually finding one would have caused me no end of regret.

Let’s play a game!

Can anybody spot the penny deal in this picture of a clearance endcap? This is just how it looked as I first walked up to it.

OK, here is another. Do you see the penny deal?
(This one is impossibly tough) I saw it because I had already scored this deal a couple of weeks ago and the package is distinctive.

There, I flipped the sign up to show merchandise under the table also.

The only one I can make out is the light wall sconce on the left hand side. I got a few of those for a penny a couple months back.

I would guess the 100W LED bulb on the top slight right

I would be shocked if its the compressor on the bottom left (plus its not distinctive)

That would be correct IF it was the DayLight version of the Philips 100W bulb. Wink
That one is the Warm White bulb and is not YET a penny.

Don’t be shocked, it wasn’t Big Smile

Concerning the “Open a Home Depot Card & Receive a Free Gift” table

HomeDepotRob wrote:

That sconce jumped right out at ya, didn’t it? Smile
Once you notice an item of interest or you score one for a penny, the image of that item gets seared into your brain. Come across that item again and “it jumps right out at you”

I am not familiar with that sconce so it didn’t jump out at me, but several other items did.
The small beige containers behind the sconce, the 2 EverReady flashlights in the center, the WINK Home Security Suite on the right and the UV flashlight just to the right of that. These are all items that I have come across at a penny.
Plus under the table is a full case of the Husky 3D ArmourMax flashlights #852-955. Those went to a penny too!

Notice behind the sticker, someone wrote in marker “852-995) They got the number WRONG. Probably why this case never got pulled a couple of months ago when that light went to a penny.

When I first saw that table and it’s contents I thought how clever! Home Depot is giving away stuff they would normally just throw in the trash to encourage people to sign up for a HD Credit Card Cash

Ordinarily, they would offer $25 off the first purchase using the card.
(I would rather take the $25, and try to find those items for a penny on my own Silly )

So, I am still looking for the correct answer for the first 2 pictures, and the correct answer to the 3rd picture, the items on the table
is EVERYTHING!

BTW, notice that the UPC code is covered with marker in the blowup below, so that it could not be scanned

Lately I have come across several items that would scan at a penny if they hadn’t either ripped off the UPC code or marked over it.
That allows them to sell penny stuff at prices other than a penny.

I was hoping for more guesses, but you got it! That is a connected hub and 2 light bulbs, “a starter kit” that once set up, allows the user with the app on their phone or computer to turn light bulbs on and off or even dim them anywhere over the internet.
That package “jumped out” at me from 60’ away. Having already scored 1 of these on my trip out, I was aware of what it was and what it would cost.
I found 1 while I was traveling to Ohio thru Southern New York on route 86. The other I found while traveling back to CT thru Up State New York on route 90. Each way I visited about 7 HD’s along the way. Surely a rare find. Of course while traveling I knew of other stuff to look for and found other items as well. Point is it’s not easy, but it IS possible. Especially if one has a large library of possible items to look for. Timing is essential also. And luck.
Notice the Date: 05/17/15. This is 1 item that did NOT follow the normal 6 to 3 price. All Connected TCP stuff held at the “00” price and then were pulled.

Like I said, this one is difficult.
And once again, it jumped out at me because I had already come across this one before. It’s difficult from this picture because you would just have to know.

One thing to look for when shopping for penny deals is that they sometimes look like penny deals. That is they may be tattered and torn, or they are filthy dirty. Wink

You showed the spanner set at 5.02 so it could be that at a different store, or the first aid kit like package in the middle

I think the blades were discounted but scanned at a higher regular price IIRC.

Prolly that ratty impossible to make out item on the bottom shelf, against the wall, behind the attic covers.

Nope, not the blades. A couple of months ago I thought I scored a whole pile of those. They were marked at the 6 price and were old enough. But they scanned at full list.

Bort, I think finally got it.
Here is the distinctive package, at least to me. First the size and shape and the red and white edge.

The “6” price, but the date is 04/12/16. It’s old enough.

And here is what they are.

Those also jumped right out at me. And notice the amount of dust on them. Also a hint and proof they have been around too long. Time for clearance!

Rats, thought those were the wrenches that were $5.02 in previous posts. Think you bought 6. Saw bar socket wrench and SAE but even zoomed in I just passed the package as the combo wrench sets.

Sometimes you have to make your own deal.

I have been seeing this “Water Resistant” bluetooth speaker on clearance now for a couple of weeks. It is at the “4” price, about 50% off.

I was at a store and they had 1 left. Notice above that the box is tattered and had been opened a number of times by people checking it out. So I opened it too, turned it on and connected it to my iPhone via bluetooth. I played some music and it sounded pretty good!.
I had been waiting for the next price drop on these and it should be any day now. The “2” price would be about 75% off or around $7.52. This being the last light, and because the box was tattered AND it was soiled, I decided I would bring it up to the Service Desk to see if they would give me a deal.

I explained the $7.52 price and it was soiled etc, etc, and offered $5.00. The girl in Service said that she was willing but wondered if the computer would let her. It did, and she rang it up for $4.50 so that I would “save the tax”

Here are the pics of the cleaning. It was easy.

Good sized magnet on the speaker, it is monoral.

Controls on top include increment and decrement of song, on and off. The + and – buttons also control the volume. There is a built in microphone for hands free operation. It can be used to answer your phone.

On the side, their is a USB port to charge the internal Li-Ion cell!
Also there is an AUX import. And comes with the cables.

And I almost forgot to mention, it doubles as a lantern Smile

This Bluetooth Speaker and Lantern is a great deal when it goes to $7.52. You may even want to get one at $15.04. In about a week, when it drops to $7.52, just bring in your receipt and they should adjust the price for you. Do that BEFORE it hits a penny and are pulled.

For those of you that missed out on the compressor deals and think there will never be another, don’t despair.
So far I have seen this deal at just 1 store, let’s hope that more stores are coming. Being the “3” price it could be months more coming. But perhaps not…

This is called a “Tri Stack” compressor. 3 tanks total, and the top one is removable. Has it’s own regulator.

I shot that on a cart, you know what that means Wink

3 days ago I posted about the deal I got on that bluetooth speaker – lantern.

At the time it was offered at $15.04, the “4” price and 50% off list. Judging by the date, I figured it would go to the “2” price any day now.
Well the day after, just 2 days ago, on a hunch I bought 4 more. I had to go to 2 different stores and I had to pay the going price of $15.04.
One store had 3 in a clearance endcap. Top shelf, center. squeezed in between 2 lights.

At the second store they were hard to find. No one in the store knew where they were, THEY WERE NOT WHERE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE. Just as I was about to give up, I found them in Garden. I am thinking someone displayed them there because the are “water resistant”, perhaps good for the patio?
This is a good example on how it is possible for HD to miss pulling a clearance item when it goes to a penny. Nobody knows where they are. In fact after the first markdown from $29.95 to the “00” price, they where not found to lower the price to the “04” price of $15.04. Here are the 4 they had still marked at $23.00

I grabbed 2, and left 2 (perhaps in 2 weeks they will still be there and I can get them for a penny?)
So in all I got 4 more, 2 at each store.
Receipt from the first store, 2 @ $15.04

Receipt from the second store, 2 @ $15.04

3 days ago when I posted this deal, I included a picture of the UPC code. At the time I printed one out and was carrying it with me.
Today, just 2 days after having bought these 4, I stopped by my local HD and scanned my UPC cutout.

Look at THAT. $7.52
So I went over to Customer Service and asked them to refund the difference from my 2 receipts (I was carrying those with me also)
Even though I didn’t have the 4 speaker-lights with me, what they did is first refund the original purchase price from both receipts to my card.

Then they had me scan my card again to buy them back, but this time at the newly discounted price of $7.52 Smile

BTW, in order to pull this off, you must return within 30 days, and do it before it goes to a penny.

So I went in to take a look at that compressor. It looks good. There was a sales associate. I asked if it was going on clearance any time soon and he asked me If I knew something he did not. I shrugged, mentioned it was on clearance in the lower 48.

He was supper suspicious about me asking if they were going on clearance. I will say I did have someone following me through the store for the rest of my visit. There were a ton of stuff layed out with signage about going on sale for labor day weekend. There might be a good deal here or there.

Some of the people on the floor are ok with the deals getting really low, others look at you like you are a criminal just for looking for good deals. Sheesh…

I snapped a pic of the UPC and tried to run it on a self checkout price check – didn’t work. The cashier misunderstood me and rang it up (it came up at full price), then got confused when I said “nevermind” and walked away. I’ll keep my eye on this one though.

I was in another local HD and they STILL have the EverReady lanterns at full price. It seems very hit and miss.

I didn’t expect that Ridgid compressor to be widely available at that price yet.
I did find one on my local Craigslist though. Looks like someone else found one and has it up for sale.

.
.
.
This Craigslist add claims that the regular price is $325.
A couple of other stores have this compressor at an even $299.00, others are out of stock.

BTW, lately I have become more and more aware of “secret” clearance deals. An example is this item. It’s a 3 ton light duty jack with 2 jack stands.
I first came across this display almost 2 months ago in 1 store.
Item #1001-650-920

Ever since then I have been scouting other stores for this item, hoping to find one at the “3” price of $30.03. All other stores either have them tagged at $109.00 or not at all.
Also it comes up as $109.00 on the web site. (The fact that it comes up an even 109.00 “00” on the web means that this price is not yet a clearance price)

That means that deal was for some reason only at that store. However a couple of days ago I came across 6 of these units in and overhead, behind a net.

Soooooo, I went up to Customer Service and gave them the item number and asked then to check for stock
They said they had 6, but notice that at this store it is on clearance and the price is an even $75.00. (1st step towards the “6” price, then the “3” price)
So I have to wonder, if it is on clearance, why isn’t it on the floor with a price?
Seems to me it was put aside for “safe keeping”, if you know what I mean. Wink

If that’s the game they’er playing, I’ll play too. My iPhone pic has data on which store that is and I’ll be watching. I just may get one or more at $30.03 yet.

That SAME store also had one of these up there.

That’s one of those 3 gallon air compressors that went for $33.00. I asked Customer Service to check for stock on that one too.
They said they had 1.

So I saw this TCP Connected LED and was pumped! dchomak had posted that all TCPs were now at a penny.

But when i took it to self checkout, I got this Sad

I tried it in two machines making sure I was scanning the barcode in the box itself, and not a sticker, but same result. As the Homedepot representative came over, my mind was racing through “what would dchomak do?” and I just blurted out “so why don’t you just let me have it for a low price?”. As I was saying it, I realized dchomak would have never said that – and the rep confirmed by saying “I could get sued for selling that to you”; Manufacturer Recall! I had never seen that one before.
