C_K's one year, 1k post give away.(Update engraved hosts received)!

Updated, hosts came in yesterday, photo's in post 41! only problem is they're glued but thankfully on an SS light there's no ano for heat to damage / to get scratched during disassembely

Hey folks I've been planning this a few weeks now and I'm here asking for the general consensus on something...

First off this isnt a typical GAW where I open a thread and take entries like I did for my 500 post GAW just a couple months ago, this one has 5 pre-selected "winners" and the point of this thread is to choose the last 2, again this isn't open for entry.

First let me tell you about what the point of this GAW is, since my 500 post one was a typical one with 3 random winners drawn I decided I wanted to choose the winners for this one by hand, I selected the 5 people who have contributed most to the OSHPark projects since those are what I use most in my modding business and their work made what I do possible. The 5 people are Mattus, WarHawk, ComfyChair, Rufudbduck and RMM however I have a total of 7 prize lights.

Now let me take a minute to tell you about the prize lights and the people who made it possible: last month I purchased one of the gearbest S1 clones in the GB and thought of the idea after that. I approached Ric from CNQG about the possibility of getting him to engrave some of the clone lights (which I could buy for $6 each from the GB) with "BLF" and "OSHPark" if I had them shipped to him and he came back with the offer to sell me original S1's for the same price and engrave them for me with no minimum order cause he liked the idea! Then I approached Calvin at Illumn and told him about the project and he was equally eager to help so he's supplying me with XP-L's to swap out the outdated XP-E's for free! THEN on top of that I approached Richard (RMM) about getting some 10440's for them too and he's helping me out greatly with those (special thanks to richard, he also helped me out with a donation to the local scout troop a few months back, cant thank him enough for that). My hats off to all the guys that helped me out with this, the prize lights end up being something extra special and with the engraving something that's impossible to replicate.

So thats the prize, a custom engraved "BLF / OSHPark" S1 to recognize the main oshpark contributors with XP-L's and supplied with 10440's (probably throw in an eneloop too), what I'm making this thread for is to take suggestions for "winners" for the last 2 lights, what's the community opinion on who deserves them and why? Keep in mind this project is targeted at the OSHPark guys specifically (cause as I've recently learned eagle my self its so much work and they ask nothing back) but you can suggest whoever you feel is a major contributor around here and I'll either make a poll or just have a discussion about it.

Anyway no pictures of the lights yet, I dont have them in hand, only my first sample came so far but everything is in motion and I'm coming up on my 1 year here in 2 days so I wanted to get this out there and get those last 2 guys chosen now, I expect to have prizes delivered to the US guys in about 2 weeks (Mattus no idea how long it'll take to get there brother but it'll be on its way in soon. Are there any special Li-ion shipping/handling restrictions I need to know?)

Edit: 7/24- I have received word from Ric the engraving is being finished up and the hosts will ship this Monday. I have also received word from Calvin the XP-L's are in route. Still thinking about the last 2 "winners", I'm thinking SB and Justin but thats not final or anything. Also a shout out to tterev3 who will be providing the programmed MCU's for the drivers.

Reserved.

My sample, for those who don’t know what an S1 is

This here is DJozz’s “prize package” for all his work (list of parts in post #31)

Update 7/25: Today the XP-L’s came in, also received word the driver boards are on today’s panel going to fab.

Thanks for the heartwarming post.

Long live BLF!

Congrats on both the 1 year and 1000 posts mate

In random order I came up with a couple of names that is not included mentioned in OP.

Djozz

ImA4Wheelr

Tom E

All great contributors in their own way for the modding community. These guys are good examples of people that start useful threads. Or share good and relevant info in various threads. Generally positive people that's got a good vibe and do what they can for the sake of helping and contributing.

Id would have liked to nominate Old Lumens as well. But I would guess he would not use the light and just gift it to someone else. :D

What a great idea.
Glad its you, not me, trying to select two out of that six 8)

Cheers David

Oh wow I honestly don't know what to say! Thank you so much. Just so happens I need a new EDC too!

I actually feel bad because I didn't realize there was a 500 post giveaway and I've missed it. I'll save up something really special for post 1000 instead ;)

No problems shipping stuff here. We only have problems shipping batteries out. No idea why.

The guys that RaceR86 has listed all deserve more than a shout out that's for sure.

- Matt

A very good list R86. I would add Dbcstm to that as it also takes members willing to go out on a limb and order the parts to try them out and I don’t know of anyone who spent more just helping to test them.

+1 to Dale too. The guy has saved me hundreds in shipping costs. And not just flashlight related stuff (have you seen the price of snowboarding gear in Australia!?). He has gone out of his way to help me dozen's of times :)

Good luck picking CK haha!!!

I think I’ve considered all those guys too I just have no idea who to settle on. I have a whole package for Jos I’m getting together right now (a bunch of BLF driver related stuff, boards and components and some digikey parts and emitters that are to expensive over there and an XML color sinkpad that you cant buy except if you want 45 of them) and ImA4wheelr actually won the SST-90 / BLF17dd orange C8 from my 500 post GAW so I hope he understands there lol.

Congrats on your 1k & 1y! In fact I thought you have been here longer, based on your expertise and contributions. Thank you for being here!

My suggestions for the last 2 are:

- SB (no explanations needed)

- RaceR86 (for the great mods and experiments on tint mixing)

Very cool giveaway for some very deserving members. Way to go C_K.

Congrats on 1K. It great to have you around here.

There are many other deserving members. I think I will second _the_'s choices. SB and RaceR86 make this place special.

good idea,nice little flashlight

I agree with the above suggestions, but because the giveaway is specifically driver-developement related, my vote goes to Dale, he kept on testing those boards, ready or not, failing and succeeding, and thus provided much valuable information for the developers.

Nice gesture CK and very generous. I hate picking anyone here as everyone has there own ways of adding useful information, inspiration, items for free the main one being a SA here, or giving us a laugh etc etc but this being an Oshparked theme giveaway there is only one DBC. I had another member here PM me with his description of Dale and it was gold. I wanted to copy it here but I seem to of deleted it. Shame on me. One word in the description was some sort of enthusiasm.

Tom E would be another who has inspired me to purchase a hot air gun to one day attempt to make a driver. It gets used on lots of other things at the moment and is bright pink and was bought on the guise with my wife that she should use it in conjunction with here sewing. I really believe she bought it.

Wow, really cool idea. Some members really deserve this kind of recognition and appreciation for their contributions to the hobby.

BLF FTW!

Congratulations, Cereal_killer! I vote for Tom E and RaceR86.

CK - wow, really nice, very kind... I think we should stick to the 5 you picked because you are spending your own time doing this. Of your 5, I kind of feel comfy is in a league of his own, and would be my top candidate without a doubt. He's originating sooo many things, and must spend hours just to relate the info into terms and pics we can understand (well most others I think Smile). But if I get 50% of it, I'm happy. Actually while the R&D goes on, I can't usually contribute much, but when it's done - brilliance, and better still, I can duplicate it!

The other four are of course well deserving... I appreciate the honorable mentions, and I'm fine with that.

RacerR86 - +1 - same back to you Laughing

Hey Tom, it’s not just one of the 5, or even just the 5 of us but 2 additional members as well for a total of 7. What a fantastic idea for a first K giveaway that’s giving me ideas for my now overdue 4K. With the various contributions CK has secured it feels more like a group giveaway. I’m honored to be included in this group and think we’ve only scratched the surface with what Oshpark (and the members that are passing on their knowledge) enables us to do.

with all due respect cereal_killer, while this is a very generous idea, I will say, however, you still have debts you need to pay (I know of one other guy, “sinnyc,” in addition to me).

I would like to state that you should pay what you owe others prior to giving things away.

I sent you a very civil private message that I have yet to hear back from. As I told you in that PM, if you settle your debt with me, then as far as I’m concerned (or care), it’s a clean slate.

Thanks.
