TK61 XP-G2 with beamshots

Well I went and put an XP-G2 de-domed in my TK61 it was a beast to get to focus correctly but I managed to get it right. To get the focus correct I removed the bottom of the reflector. Added another sinkpad under the one the emitter is mounted on and then also lifted the reflector up just a little bit. I know it sounds kinda convoluted but it's the only way I could get it to focus correctly. Of course I had previously done the resistor mods as well so the XP-G2 is pushed very hard. It's exactly 900 Lumens OTF according to my meter. I'm hitting about 700kcd on my meter give or take.

700kcd! NOICE!

If you look closely you can see smoke coming off that tree. :stuck_out_tongue:

Great mod as usual.
Any photos of the reflector?

holy smokes! this is prolly one of the furthest throwing reflector based light

Thanks guys. This light is just crazy. It puts a tight hotspot on trees at a quarter mile easy.

Here is a pic of the reflector.

great work 18sixfifty!

700 is a whole lot!

is it a real "pencil beam"? it pretty sure looks like it!

Nice!

Damn!, that beam certainly looks like 700kcd. That has to be a reflector based light record for that size light. Nice work 18650.

Apparently you pointed it down south and hit a penguin

Wow, great job 18650. Would you say the beam is quite usable or not? I’ve got a de-domed XM-L2 TN31 and for me that’s bordering on being too small of a hotspot.

Thanks guys and yes it’s a pencil beam. For me it’s usable because I have a lot of open fields where I live and I love to go walking and scout deer. It’s nice to be able to check them out from across a 100 acre field. It still has a quite a bit of flood but it’s kind of ridiculous having a nice flood and this tiny bright hot spot in the middle of it. Even on low the hotspot is very bright. I would say that for general use it’s still better to go with the XM-L2. But for me I have a use for the range and well I just had to see what it would do.

I was actually pretty worried that I wasn’t going to be able to get it to focus. I think I spent a good 6 hours or so messing with it before I got it right. But once it finally fell in place it was a perfect hotspot.

Congrats, I love that one! A Jacob A60 on steroids.

If you configured for general use we'd have no reason to own so many!

That sounds about right for a large reflector. I´ve sometimes had to tweak and test for day after day because it was not as good at I wanted it.

Great mod. Always take some courage to rip into a perfectly good premium light! Do you have a ballpark figure for whre you are at with the amps?

5? 7? 9? Just a general ballpark figure. I am curious like all get out.

Congrats! How many amps are you pushing thru that poor XP-G2?

Thanks and yep getting the focus correct on these takes some doing. Especially on the bigger reflectors. It literally has to be perfect, the tiniest bit too high or too low or side to side and it’s a mess.

It’s under 6 amps so I suppose there is room for more amps yet. But then you really hit the point of diminishing returns.

Curious, exactly what did you do to the driver?

Fantastic work mate, but for those that don’t already know, Vinh has his heavily driven XM-L2 TK61’s up to 740k.

Regardless, focussing that emitter in that reflector…guessing not a 5 minute job

^ Thanks for the correction.

Great mod !!!

True. Wish it wasnt so though. But it is :-( (sulking) LOL
