Opus BT-C3100 can't/won't charge Li-ion in slot 4!?!?

I know this can’t be widespread, or I would have seen someone else complaining about it, but: Is anyone else unable to charge Li-ion cells in slot 4?

I got my charger from the GB GB earlier today, and I’ve been fussing over this for a while, but, so far, no matter what I set the charging current to, no matter whether the cell voltage is a frail 2.5v, or a hearty ~3.7v, the charging current drops from the set-point to ~20-70 mA within 10 seconds or so.

At first I thought it was a problem with some of the 18650 Samsung laptop pulls I am using, but now that I’ve done a charge discharge cycle of 3 of them, I can confirm that all three of the cells that weren’t working in channel #4 are working just fine in channels 1-3.

On the other hand, the old NiMH battery I chucked in there isn’t provoking the same behavior.

Anyone else seen anything like this? Anyone else dealt with returning a defective charger to Gearbest? If so, any tips?

Thanks.

i bought 4.
on one, the first slot was bad.
it would show voltage when empty.
i returned it.
they talked me down one dollar on my refund.
they gave a usa addy for the return.
there was another defective one in the thread.

Try cleaning the contacts. They could be dirty, causing extra resistance and premature termination.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the contacts, and they seem clean. In addition, the resistance calculations are pretty much the same whether I run the test in the problem slot, or one of the ones that is working properly.

I contacted their support. We’ll see what they come back with.

They have offered to reimburse me for part of the cost of having it repaired.

Seems like they should be able to do better than that…

so a slot in a charger warrants a new thread? Why not contact their customer service?

I apologizing for misunderstanding the culture here. In my experience, tacking separate issues onto the end of existing threads leads to long threads that are difficult for anyone to make use of after the fact. I recognize though that different communities have different norms.

As for why not contact their customer service, I have, but before I did, I wanted a better sense of 1) whether I was missing something, 2) how widespread the problem was 3) how other people have ended up resolving the problem. The last point was of particular interest, because my experience dealing with Chinese commerce sites is limited, and an earlier issue with GearBest took longer to resolve that I’d hope.

I did try to search the forum for information on all of this, but I wasn’t too successful. I thought other people in a similar situation might benefit from the thread.

In any case, I’m happy to report that with the help of their “embedded” BLF support person, we’ve come to a suitable resolution quickly. They will send me a new charger. I will keep the old charger and send them a reasonable fee, which seems a fair exchange for the hassle and expense of shipping.

If this thread is litter, I will not be offended if a moderator deletes it.
