18650 Holder Max Current

I plan on wiring these 18650 batteries holders into a 2s2p configuration. How much current do you think I can pass through them?

Not more than a few amps.

Yup, I have a 1S4P battery holder like this and it has quite high internal resistance.

I need upwards of 20amps. Are there anything in the market like this?

Why don't you rewire it?

Would it work if I rewire it with thinker wire?

The springs are also an issue, you can improve them by using copper braid or thicker wire to reinforce the ends.

That depends on how you rewire it. Look at how we mod flashlights for high current and do the same things.

These look more heavy duty. I emailed the manufacture, but what do you guys think. Would I be able to do 20-30amps?

Afaik, those are permanently discontinued. If you find otherwise, please let me know.

What do you need so much current for?

Your battery life will be very poor btw

Mostly just headroom. I have an 1/5th scale RC car. The car runs off gas. I just need to power 2 servos. I don’t have the tools to measure the amps they pull but the smaller one max out at 6 amps and the bigger one I’m not sure.

What about it would make my battery life poor?

If the battery is rated at about 3A (3400mAh is he highest you can get) then at 20A you will have nine minutes of battery life
Perhaps you should look into lithium polymer, they are rated for high discharge and you won’t need holders, Hobby King has many to choose from.

Also high discharge 18650s have even lower capacities, you can’t easily use regular ones

That is what a lot of guys buy for them aftermarket, but I’d rather have 18650’s.

right now it has a 4600mah nimh that last well over a tank and that is pretty much all I need. Figured if i do 2s2p with 4 20A purple efest 18650 3100mah. I can get a 6200mah pack that will last just as long as my nimh.

It won’t be pulling that much all the time. Just burst when I brake and steer.

Here is a diy I could probably pull off. Think this can pull 20amps? Maybe if I used different terminals?

looks interesting, can the batteries your wanting to use provide 20A without failure?

I’ve been looking at reviews of the 20A purple efest 18650 3100mah. Mostly from ecig users with high amp mods, Looks promising and it would almost be like how I would use it…. in short burst.

I’ve melted down those holders at less than an amp! They are utter crap. No way in hell you can get 20 amps out of them. Crappy springs. Crappy wires. Crappy/crimped cell contacts. Crappy plastic. Crappy design. Crappy fit. Even cat crap is less crappy.

I’ve been looking into how ecig users build there mods. these guys run at amps I’m realistically gonna see and with same usage patterns.

Gonna try to diy something like this. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/656x676q90/661/QhWzeL.jpg

Found this battery holder resistance test that was helpful. Battery holder contact resistance measurements

Pretty much Keystone 18650 battery holders are the best you can buy and i see people are using them in 20a+ ecig mods.

for batteries I found these… Samsung 25R 20a continuous.
