Mounting tailmagnet on nitecore ec1

Anyone Done this? I really love this light but i use the olight s10 more in my work just because it has a tailmagnet, so anyone have solved this problem?

I don’t understand. What are you asking exactly? Can’t you just glue a magnet on ?

I’d glue one on, the largest diameter that will fit (20-25mm at a guess):

Yes thats what i thinking of i dont want to glue magnet outside. Ok i Will check out how thick magnet i can place there.

How did you manage to remove the tailcapboard, its look like its glued to the tail?! Or did you just removed the spring?

Had to destroy it to get it out, it is glued in quite well.
There was no going back once i started that one.
Heating might help release the glue.

Ok thx for the tips i Will have to warm it up to loose the glue. How strong or witch size were your magnets to have strength to hold the light? Ive now ordered 2pcs 16x2mm.

I put in 3 N35 magnets of reducing sizes stacked like a pyramid which is plenty strong for the EC25.
The EC1 being much smaller & lighter will require less.

I don’t think those magnets you’ve ordered will have a large enough diameter - ideally you want a magnet the same diameter and thickness of the contact board you remove.

Remember the light can be locked out by unscrewing the tailcap slightly so the magnet needs to have enough width to make contact with the base of the battery tube, an 18mm x 1,5mm magnet would probably be perfect for that.
The 16mm will just fit inside the tube, like the battery does.

Also it looks like there’s not much room for play with the short threads on th EC1 so you’ll need to match the size of the contact board as close as possible.

From Selfbuilts review

While it isn’t really possible with your Nitecore ec1, I’ve used magnet cups to attach tail magnets to UNC1/4’–20 threaded tail/tripod mount lights—like Jetbeam DDA10 or Sunwayman C15A

I used http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=32066&cat=1,42363,42348 and a Blum system screw (rethreaded to UNC1/4’–20) http://www.leevalley.com/US/hardware/page.aspx?p=56292&cat=3,41306 to attach the cup.

Doesn’t soldering to the magnet ruin the magnetic capability of the magnets?

I soldered wires on to some of those tiny 2mm jobbies to stick to batteries as a makeshift quick connect, but afterwards…nope…no more sticky sticky

Ah, you’re transferring too much heat through the magnet. Try loading up the wire or spring that you want to solder to the magnet with a blob of solder, let it cool then place it onto the magnet and apply just enough heat to the top of the solder blob to melt it. Gotta be very quick & careful.

I must admit it took me some trial & error to refine the technique.
It helps a lot if you have the magnet stuck onto say, a pair of pliers or something similar to wick away heat from the magnet. And don’t forget the flux.

Soldering the smaller magnets is tricky, but it can be done of course.
Here’s one i did earlier

It can be a huge bitch to solder wires to magnets, one of the issues is you have to have the magnet securely stuck to something so it doesn’t jump up into the iron and burn up before you have time to grab pliers and get it off. Other than that flux it with good flux (liquid) and tin it first (also tin the wire), then you should be able to do it. I’m sure you noticed the leads on that DMM/7135 tester I sent you were still plenty sticky, let’s just say those wernt the first I’ve done or even from the first pack I’ve done lol), used to I would solder to one and then glue a 2nd magnet to the first I soldered to for more pull, I’ve gotten it figured out how to do it now tho and only need the single magnet.
