I've got a question about the Solarforce L2 and extensions.

Is the tailpiece for the L2 body supposed to fit on the end of the extensions?

I ordered this and the tailpiece doesn't fit: http://www.solarforce-sales.com/product_detail.php?t=FB&s=1&id=157

I'm not sure if the clickie is rated for the current it would have to handle with 2 or more 18650's so maybe it isn't supposed to fit. Does anybody with experience of these extensions know?

Thanks,

Ron

Strange... my extension works with the standard L2 tailcap perfectly, as well as with the L2P tailcap or the S4. Do the threads engage? Maybe your extension got a fatter O-ring, so you may have to push the tailcap on to get past the ring. Once you can screw the tailcap on there should be no problem.

Regarding the current stability of the L2 switch, mine handles around 3 A with an XM-L dropin just fine. When you use more than one Li-Ion battery, the voltage rises and the current draw drops, so you should be save there, assumed the  drop in can handle it.

Hope that helps!

Using the L2 body with the extension and the L2 tailcap for the Masterpiece Pro 1(2X18700).. no problems for me.

Really doubt it is a safety feature. Did the original light come from Solarforce Sales as well? Maybe you have a fake Solarforce host (and fake tailcap), but genuine extensions.

Yes, the threads engage. My verdict is the thread profile is wrong. The threads on the male portions of the extension are not as deep as they should be. The threads are square on the outside instead of being pointed.

So my question to the group is is the knurling pattern on your extensions tighter than that on the L2 body? On the 2 I have here the knurling is much smaller.

In the old days as an optics technician I would put some pumice into the joint and work it until all the surfaces mated properly. After I got them mated I would clean both pieces in an ultrasonic cleaner. I just don't have those tools here on Guam, so I'm going to have to do it the hard way. This might end up in a sloppy fit.

You shouldn't have to go this far to make these things work. They look so nicely machined, but whoever manufactures these things for Solarforce better look at their tooling. I'm going to create a review of this entire process, including all of the metal waste. I'm actually doing it as I write this post.... almost there with one of them after 45 minutes... Not good.

Seem like a bad part from them, which is uncommon but happens. They have pretty good customer service, so if you email them and link to this thread, I'm pretty sure they'll send you a working extension.

Thanks Hex, too late, I already got them worked in. It took over 2 hours. I've also got a lucky streak going with the HK Postal system, so I'm gonna let it roll. All the pieces fit well and this is one nice body. Laughing

Nope the knurling on my L2+extension are not the same, but as to the thread pattern - I have no problems. The extension they send out seems to be the matte like L2P (HAIII).

Flashlight Foy's post #8 on this thread: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/2723 - I guess confirms it

I have the same problem with my extensions, which also have square threads. I have some pumice but not the know-how, Ron, so looking forward to your review of the procedure. My extensions have tighter knurling and more of a matt finish than the L2. Everything came from Solarforce-sales.
