Can I use Convoy C8 host for diving?

I am about to diy my 1st diving light. Can I use convoy C8 host for this purpose? Do the o-rings and switch good enough for 30-40m diving? I would like to use MT G2 LED with 2x18650. Any suggestion for me are appreciated.

best regards,
Bom

I doubt it, unless you replace the o-ring seals with heavy duty ones.

Not knowing anything about it myself… but wouldn’t you also need/want to double O-rings? I know I see that a lot on diving rated flashlights.

And, unless you have the ability to re-machine the o-ring grooves, there's not much that can be improved. O-rings in the sizes needed to fit the stock parts aren't likely to be enough of an improvement to transform it into a diving light.

A flexible switch boot is usually a no-no for dive lights, too. The water pressure will compress the boot and if not fully click the switch, at least apply enough force to partially unseat the electrical contacts. Dive lights are different in just about everything from ordinary lights, usually for good reason.

That’s very true. Although the Convoy C8 is well built, I don’t think it can be modded into a diving light at all, especially when the top o-ring between the bezel and the lens is so thin. (<1mm)

Edit: What Comfy said.

Perhaps you’d be better off buying a cheap (but decent quality) dive light or host only, if you can get one, and put inside what you want. That way, the “diving capable” part will have already been accomplished.

The Convoy C8 is not designed for diving at all.

It also uses a rear clicky. And the water would leak around there if you didn't seal it really well.

This is a dive light you can mod. There are mods out there for using 2 x 18650s in this light. But my mod was just quick and easy using a P60 drop-in and keeping the AA batteries. OR a person could use 2 x 14500s + dummy cell with the right driver.

Can you make a P60 drop-in with a MT-G2 LED? I know vinhnguyen54 builds them.

You could build one with Richard's Qlite MT-G2 Zener mod.

Thanks guys, after reading all opinions, it would be much easier to get real diving light. I don’t want to dive in darkness if something happens with flashlight.
