Terralux TLF 1C1AA

In my constant quest for the perfect pocket 1x14500 EDC host I've ran into this Terralux. I could care less about the UI, emitter or output, now that I'm at the level I'm at no factory UI does it for me anymore, I need one of my own or MELD... All I need to know about this thing is the driver and emitter MCPCB size. Anyone have one or seen a picture of one opened up?

I would just get a Balder SE-1 and call it a day but they dont tail stand and I need my pocket EDC to tail stand stable.

I have not seen one opened up, however I have a Terralux-LightStar100 . It amazes me at how long it will run. I have it running now using at least 10 year old Sanyo. I turned it off last night at bed time after it had run 11 hrs – 20 min on low. The low mode is stated as 50 lumens. That looks about right to me. What other single AA light do you know that will run that long at 50 lumens on one nimh battery?
I got this off ebay probable 8 years or so for $9.00. It is a bit large for my front pocket, but could make it do if necessary.

It is still running and looks to have a couple more hours or so.

Jerry,

It’s rated 50 lumen for 2 hrs. Are you getting 50 lumen for 11ish hours?? If so, that’s damn impressive!

dealgrabber, It is difficult to believe, but that is what I am getting. I have no idea why or how. I don’t think I would believe it except I am seeing it. In addition it has been burning for another 1.5 hours today.

Another real surprise to me is my Fenix E11. I decided to try it on low with a Nice lithium battery that I got From FT. It ran 7hrs-24min last evening when I turned if off for the night and has also run 1.5 hrs today. One would not need to carry many batteries on a camping trip with these lithium batteries. The Fenix E 11 low mode is 32 lumens and is rated for 8 hours 23 minutes runtime, so it is doing better with the lithium battery.

I have several Nice batteries in AA and AAA size, and as well as this one is doing I think I’ll buy a few more while I can get them from FT.

Hi, i got the Fenix E11 (new/last model) too. Have you use it with a 14500 battery? How can handle the led/driver? It’s a risk to damage something?

Terralux are reaaaally nice lights. I’m waiting a Brinyte ED30 1AA/14500, but think that a Terralux 1AA/14500 will be my next flashlight! I really like the tactical style. Which model is the best for the money? I like Terralux TLF PRO1. Smile

Hi Manx, I have not tried a 14500. Personally I have found that I do not care much for lion batteries in my lights. While they are brighter, they are also too soon hot. The TerraLux Lightstar 100 is the only one I have used. I do not carry it because I prefer AAA lights for my pocket. It is much larger than the E11. As for 1 AA lights the 4 Sevens mini is the smallest and not too large for my pocket. Sorry I don’t have the answer.

Regards,
Jerry

How’s the tint and beam pattern for the lightstar 100. Heard is pretty ringy and led is often off centered.

wow, it’s big!
Fenix E11 is not so lightweight, and if Terralux LightStar100 is bigger…very tought.

I see the TerraLUX more of a camping light than an EDC light.

I’ve had a Terralux Lightstar 100 for 4 or 5 years, it was the first small LED light I bought. I EDCd it for a year or two until I started getting into modding lights.

It’s a great light, still looks and works like new. As previously mentioned, the run time is much better than advertised, at least on NiMH batteries.
The beam is surprisingly tight for a small light but still has decent spill, there is however one pronounced ring near the edge of the spill. Only really noticeable when wall hunting.

I took it apart a few years ago when I started modding but found it somewhat unfriendly to mod and decided to leave it as it was.

It’s been a while but I believe it uses an XP-E. TIR optic uses a holder and threads into the head, if the head is screwed up or down it goes out of focus. The head is glued by the way.
I don’t know what it uses for a driver but looking down the battery tube the + contact is a piece of spring steel embedded in plastic. I don’t remember what’s on the LED side as far as PCB.
The body is fairly heavy aluminum, threads feel smooth, belt clip sturdy, pouch kinda cheap.

I never tried a 14500 but I’ve been using these CR14505 lithium primaries for the last few years. Provide a bit more punch and it hasn’t died yet. On those batteries I measured 950mA and 4kcd.

All in all I think it’s a great light for the money.

I remember a time, when I searched for lights to fit my needs. Now I search for needs to fit my lights.
