Some questions about this fixed knife from fasttech

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1901/10006667/1522006-ct343-stainless-steel-fixed-wilderness-survival

-Is it a colt knife fake or it is true/real?
-Is it full tang is it?
-Is it 8cr13mov? And its heat treatment?
-Somebody has it?

Thanks!

Most likely it could be a colt knife as they are made by united cutlery out ofnchina or thailand
It is a full tang
Yes and most likely
But from personal experience with colt fixed knives are that they are not what they use to be. If you want a colt fixed blade, try to find one from or before 2003, when they were made in Germany.

And do you think that the blade will have the quality of 8cr13mov from enlan knives for example? Edge retention, sharpness and heavy use…

That I do not know sorry.

Thank you for the response.

The question isn’t about the steel. 8Cr13MoV is a decent steel for knives, but the real question is the heat treatment. That’s the lottery you play with unknown Chinese knives. You really have to put the knife in a position where it could fail you to know for sure. Not a problem if you carry lots of backups. I’ve seen anything from an edge roll when you go to use it, to the knife shattering into little pieces when you use it for throwing. A few of my Chinese made fixed blades have stood up to real world abuse and are champs that I trust.

Personally that FT model looks decent, though I hope you’re not buying it for the name. I have bought most of Fasttech’s fixed blades and will probably add this one to my collection. You may want to look at this one as well. I like those Strider knockoffs, too, though I’ve been meaning to get around to stripping the logos off. Somewhere floating around BLF I even did a few fixed blade reviews for some FT knives. I say go for it!

I think it is not wise to assume a steel performing decently on folders will be a good choice for a fixed. Let’s anticipate frustration and wounds: I would not dare judge the resilience of a blade steel on folders using that steel. Fixed blade knives are the benchmark for hard use, folders… Well they fold.

I have many folding knives in 8Cr13MoV steel and they do ok, they were probably decently heat treated and I can state they sharpen reasonably easy and hold an edge for reasonably long (I have sharpened A LOT of knives and steels on different sharpening tools in my life). That said, I don’t have had any experience with 8Cr13MoV fixed blade knives, so I can’t say how common geometries would hold up to whacking, but I also admit to generally look for less stainless steels on hard use fixed knives.

If that colt knife from fasttech is a copy i do not want to buy it, if it ias original yes.
And the famous buck copy from fasttech

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1901/10002795/1208201-camping-hunting-knife

I do not like because it is fake and you can not read the type of the steel, bad signal…
But the colt is 8cr13mov, that is a garanty (yes, the heat treatment we do not know it). I see than that colt does not have the colt logo, is it a oem colt without logo but the same that the original?

From other listings the Buck copy is 8Cr13MoV.

The “Colt” looks like it might be made by the same company.

Look around eBay for the Schrade Old Timer Bowie Knife. You’d have a bit of saving to do, but it’s a solid 10” clip point knife that is still surprisingly economic.

Schrade Old Timer Bowie Knife seems to be sent only to usa.
Well, still it is not clear if that colt is a fake (but if it has not the colt logo is not a fake) or if you buy it fasttech send a fake with the logo or… Or is a original colt, or it is a original oem colt without logo or…
Who knows…

A lot of U.S.A. manufacturers buy knives in and there is the chance that the Chinese factory produced 1500 instead of 1000 or whatever, these “extras” find their way into the retail chain, logo’d or not. FastTech are not usually very good at covering the trademarks up but occasionally they get it right.
If you long for a Fixed blade then the one you originally posted looks value for money.
There is also the possibility of the knives on sale being “rejected because of quality issues”, yeah right!!!
Not a lot of money for a decent looking knife, 8 Euros.
Personally I’d go for one from AliExpress on this occasion.
Or if you want guaranteed quality buy the Hultafors heavy duty knife, best bang for buck on the market at the moment. There are cheapish Mora’s as well both these options will get you a knife that will outlast you.

Well, about heavy use i said is for being a fixed knife, it has not lock system that can fail. For example, this colt 343 would be strronger than my enlan el01 for example, only for being a fixed knife full tang and if it has a good heat treatment (i do not know that). It has a 3.8mm blade, like a enlan el01 or ganzo g704 but the lock will not fail, it is a fixed knife!!!

I doubt it’s a “fake” since the “real” ones are probably made in China. Just like as is most likely the case for that Buck (which Buck even admitted to), the Chinese manufacturer is probably selling them on the side. Fasttech’s version of that knife is probably as real as real gets. It’s hard to feel bad for a company like Buck or Colt or Browning when they get burned on their Faustian bargain of trading their good reputation for short term financial gain. Some of these companies who used to make all their products in the US now capitalize on the confusion and try to extract premium prices for their lower end models. I remember this old guy at Lowes handing me this set of Kobalt pliers saying “don’t buy Craftsman, they are Chinese crap” as the Kobalt pliers he handed me clearly said “Made in China”. Apparently him and his bosses at Lowes were told that Kobalt makes all their stuff in the US—oops.

My knife buying advice is always the same: Focus more on value than where a knife is made, and always have a backup. In my experience, just about every knife I have bought from Fasttech has been a great value. My biggest pet peeve is when cheap knives have a premium price. Some cheap fixed blades like the Moras are a fantastic value. And as always, if you want a superior product, you’re going to pay for it. I’m a big fan of Tops and Ka-Bar, and there are no shortage of great fixed blades out there. But I do like my cheap knives as well.

Well, i do not know if bucks from fasttech are fake or not, but the BG are all fakes. In the case of the colt if it has not logo it can be real oem, but of fasttech send it with logo then can be real colt no oem or a fake.

The worst is than that colt seems be hiden for all people, without reviews and discussions.

Well, ordered one… We will see if it was better a srm/enlan of that price or that colt…

Any of you get this colt? I been looking at fixed blade full tang knives, and came across this. Benchmade and Kershaw are my usual goto knives, but they are pricey.

Fit finish seem to be good? Blade steel hold up good? Grind on blade even or wonky?

I have it. I think it is not bad for the price. It is sharp, and the screws came crushed. Handle is too small too, enlans have bigger handles. The tip is thing and it is hollow ground, sheath is bad. But the blade is thick and it seems ok. Handle is slippy. Overall i think it is good deal for the price if you compare with the small size of folders you can get for that price.
