Fasttech should be okay, but the best source is from Simon at Aliexpress , he is very responsive and helpful, customizes the driver and LED upon request (so you can be sure of getting XM-L2), is a BLF member, and in my experience ships much faster than Fasttech.

I can't stand those 3/5 mode group drivers, I'm always inadvertently switching to the disco group. I'd also prefer the emitter on a Noctigon so I recommend buying the host and assemble your own, it's pretty easy. The OEM host version is the same but unmarked and cheaper. A de-domed XP-L V5 2A works well in this reflector, good balance of throw and flood for a general purpose pocketable light.

You would have gotten an authentic one from fasttech, they were the first retailer to sell them (if i am not mistaken), and i have one from there, its my most versatile light.

Exactly, so with the OEM D4 version only $9 (was $7 for 10qty.) a few weeks ago @ CNQG , an emitter of choice on Noctigon ~$5-7, and custom programmed driver ~$6, you'd have a better custom light for ~$2 more.

I just dislike the group-change-ready-blink that happens with those drivers. I only rarely accidentally change groups, but I am almost always startled by that blink.

I bought 2 of these recently, looking forward to playing with them. One is getting an XP-l . Are these just unbranded convoys, they look identical ?

He is avantgarde now, he was one of the first to carry the S8, the L4, the S2+ and the new version of the M2.
He has an interesting stock for our niche, he delivers good quality at reasonable prices, he is very responsive to questions, he ships fast, registered and well packaged. All that is way more important for me than anything else.

No. There are very profound reasons for the assumtion that there is not even a “Convoy” company. And Simon @ShenzenGreatWall just adopted the already existing name. The name Convoy (with this style of logo) came up about about 1 year ago, Fasttech being the +only+ seller for quite a while! Fasttech started selling Convoy hosts and built lights based on these hosts, that had been sold under other names long before. The Convoy M1 had been sold by CNqualitygoods as “OEM D4”. The Convoy S3 had been sold by intl-outdoor as “EDC”. Nothing new here from Fasttech, just a common name for many of the OEM hosts. So I render it very possible that Fasttech approached the real manufacturer (maybe one or several) of these hosts, which will put any name or logo on it you want to, to make them. Perhaps Fasttech designed the name and logo - Fasttech was very active and almost avantgarde concerning flashlights back then. Perhaps an OEM manufacturer came up with name and logo, who knows. There must be only a handful of these manufacturers, after all the flashlight market is a niche business. So after some time other sellers started listing Convoy hosts and lights. No exclusiveness with Fasttech here. One of these sellers is Simon. He started his shop way later and a bit clumsily made his entrance in BLF. He used the name Convoy for all his products and the same kind of writing as Fasttech. He told it was his name and when asked, whether he makes these lights, he said yes. What he meant was that he +uses+ this name and that he +builds these lights from parts+. Many on BLF assumed from his words (there is a language barrier here) that he owns the brand and he is the manufacturer of these hosts (like in: lathe and anodize them). He isn’t. He admitted it when cornered by some zealous members here. He said Convoy was not a registered trademark, so he took it. He exaggerated here, leaving the impression he is behind the Convoy lights. Simon - who’s name is hardly Simon, by the way, as well as CNQG-Ric is not Ric and IOS-Hank is not Hank and FT-Sufie is not Sufie and MT-Amanda is not Amanda. We would not be able to even pronounce their names correctly, let alone write them. They simply adopt names we can write, as we all use Latin keyboards. Same way Simon adopted the Convoy brand. Well, some here hold a grudge against Simon since he copied the Convoy brand some other guy had invented. I don’t. I can live with that. Reason is that in other aspects he has proven legit. He buys parts and sells them, and he uses the Convoy hosts he buys from the manufacturer and build lights to sell them. He is avantgarde now, he was one of the first to carry the S8, the L4, the S2+ and the new version of the M2. Just looked up some older threads: Fasttech sells Convoy at least since beginning of 2013. In mid 2013 Simon appeared on BLF, comfychair pushed him several times about the Convoy name, Simon talked about making / producing the lights, told member f42 he would “talk with the factory”. Perhaps it really was his own company’s factory… =scratch=on=head=

As I already said, I believe Simon is one of the good sellers - him being Convoy or not.
Last light I got from him was an S2+ and it came in perfect condition. I joined the current M2 groupbuy the moment I saw it.

If my assumption about his brand was wrong all the time, my respect would only be higher.
