Are the threads on your Starry Light wearing out?

I’ve recharged the batteries maybe 100-150 times now and i’m noticing the threads don’t hold the cap on very well, a slight loosening and the head pops off. I’m not using as much these days because of this but just curious is anyone else is having this problem or has recharged the batteries nearly as many times as i have.

This was a concern in the GB IIRC. I also seem to recall an attempt to fix it, or a plan but it was too hard to do, not expected to be done, anyway I think in the end it was dismissed as being unlikely to be a widespread issue or some such. It was the reason I never bought one. I kind of regretted not buying one given the price and 4AA and reported performance, until now.

Its a great light and eneloops kick ass but my frequent use of it seems to be the problem (unlike my Convoy M1 and S2, they have more then triple the age, hours and battery charges but are doing great)

my starry light thread is failing me too :frowning:
too bad since i like it so much,is RIC from CQG selling just the body tube?

I’ve got about 75 charges on mine… yes starting to wear :frowning:

Metal + plastic threads. Who could have seen this coming? H)

Funny how we were told after testing there is no problem

Well, they screwed it on.... & off, and there was no problem!

What else would they would tell you? "Our design has a major flaw, its threads will not last. Maybe you should not give us your money."

How long have you had your light and how much have you used it?

Yes, chinese manufacturers will always give most honest advice

This is from another thread, reposted here in case you don’t follow that thread, i have not tested it yet but this should work quite well

Do you have any pictures of your threads?
Any chance the body is abs? You could make abs slurry and rebuild the threads.

I don’t know what the body is, i don’t think its ABS but to be honest i have no idea
this is the best photo i could take

Like was said prior, wrap some teflon tape roun' her and ferget a bout it..

Only gone thru one or two sets of batteries in mine, so it’s fine.
I’ll buy and Starry SA-22’s you don’t want

I go through two sets of batteries in 3-4 days on average, i just recharged the eneloops last night
I want the light, i just want it to last longer.

Did teflon tape help at all?

I have not tried it yet, i hate cleaning the threads, the grease gets everywhere so i have been putting it off. When i do get around to it i will post

Anyone with a warm white LED problems with pill stucking in head?
I had one light which unscrewed the reflector a bit from the pill that lead to scraping up metal parts which felt into the reflector and sometimes prevented the pill from free turning which made it stuck…
I have put my working one to standby until I have the time to apply a bit of thread lock between reflector and pill.
Not nearly as used as yours I opened and closed mine less than 50 times, but always fear that the threads fail especially because if you screw it on to much it jumps over…

Yours is about to go, mine did that and about 10 charges later was stripped.
The pill stuck is because the head has separated internally, take it apart from the back of the headcap and tighten it.

Sounds very promising…….
