Ultra Fire charger voltage

The pics are self explanatory.

Before I found this forum I was using this charger for my flashlights.

Now I use the xtar VC 2 only. I had bought that charger at a local batteries + and bulbs store. I wonder if they will let me return it.

You should show this to the store owner. Then you should destroy it.

I’d try to get a refund on the batteries too. Or are they laptop pulls?

Have you tried another DMM to verify the numbers?

Clearly its extremely dangerous and defective. Though with ultrafire you could argue that since this is the norm for them, is it really “defective” or as designed (to maim and burn)?

The store should refund you but the charger also should be rendered unusable before its handed over to them. Anyone who sells ultrafire chargers can not be trusted not to resell this one. Its no secret that ultrafire is hazardous.

Welcome to the forum. Nice place, nice people, nice place to learn. You were lucky to not have had an “incident”; there are pictures available online of the damage that over-charged cells can do. There is a question as to whether the cells that were already so over-charged are still safe. Others here are more savvy than me, but I would be tempted to discard them. I would not expect the store owner to know everything about cells and chargers, but if you show him he should realize that he could face liability issues if something happened and a defective charger caused a house or car fire. Attorneys would go after him, not a distant manufacturer. Let him know about HKJ and his “http://lygte-info.dk/” site with tons of expert reviews; maybe he will even get the bright idea to begin to educate his customers and expand his customer base that way. Again, welcome.

I’d trust the info from a Craftsman DVM significantly more than anything by Ultrafire.

Since the reading are off by ~.2 volts checking the DMM against a new lithium primary or even an alky should indicate whether the DMM is significantly out of whack. My out-of-the-box Energizer AA’s are all around 1.8 volts.

The multimeter works great. I have over 80 lap top pulls and use it to test their voltages. It usually shows 4.14-4.20 when I charge them via the xtar vc2. However I was shocked to see some of the voltages when I used the old ultrafire charger instead. Fire indeed!

Trust me all Ultrafire charges as well as batteries are not reliable!

Yikes.

I tell people at work that and most don’t believe me. But 1 person did after I sent him a link to some battery issues and he went home and threw his ultrafire charger and batteries away. My good deed for the year
