With the interest and the amount of posts this led, XHP70, has created I would like to collate here the different reflectors being used and your thoughts to use as a guide for anyone thinking of using this led.
I modded an original 3C Defiant Super Thrower and slightly underwhelmed with the results. This reflector is very deep and not really suitable. As a direct comparison the hotspot is roughly 1/3rd smaller than the MTG-2. With both leds running at 3.7 amps at the led the output out the front was 18% higher and on the pipe contraption 17% higher for the XHP70 N4 3C.
It was impossible to tune out the shadow in the middle of the hotspot. The highest reading on the meter had a large shadow in the middle but very bright around this. I have settled for a slightly darkish centre with a slightly lower overall reading. At 100 meters this is not really noticeable.
Is the 18% noticable? Yes, it is quite a bit brighter and the tint is also a lot nicer though both leds are 5000k.

as the xhp has hole in the middle I feared that a projection of it also has a shadow in the middle.
So the tint from the xhp is even better than the mtg? That would be a total win as the tint from the neutral mtgs is really great.
What about dedoming? Are you brave enough…?
I wonder if the 50 and 70 would look better through an optic than from a reflector.
I would think it would be better matched with an OP reflector. Throw sucks if the center isn’t the brightest part of the beam.
