WTB: Modified/Upgraded Laser

Hey I was looking for an upgraded or modified laser if anyone has one to get rid of. I got one from ebay and wasn’t too impressed. Was looking for one at least 50mw. Preferably Green.

eBay lasers are junk and you should stay away from green, well at least 532nm because 99% arent IR filtered and thus bad for your eyes.

I have a few custom built one of a kind lasers but they are a lot more expensive than your average eBay laser. PM me if you are interested; 445nm, 520nm and 638nm

Think I may be willing to sell mine for about $150 or equivalent trade.

Its a 2w 445nm, built in a gray solarforce l2n host.

Not sure if that's what type of modified laser you are looking for though

Oh and I have a 462nm as well……thats a very nice exotic wavelength that not many people have in a hand held

Yeah I heard that too, I actually like the blue better anyway. I was thinking about just making one myself starting with the M140 diode, I see them on ebay for $36-$46 Are you familiar with that one? I was hoping to not have to spend more than $50 so if you got any in that price range let me know. thx

yeah that one is a lil too pricey for me. lol

You will be looking at $100+ to build one with that diode, depending on what you go with for a host, heat sink and driver.

Dont really want to sell it, so I put out a number that would be worth selling it LOL. I think I spent around $130 building mine, and went the budget route on it. I could have saved some on the p60 host, but really wanted to use the l2n in a build so went with that

Mine was built from a m140 diode from DTR. I had an idea what to think when I was building it, but was still shocked at the output once it was done

If you search the forum for "laser guru" you will find a thread I started with lots of good info on building a laser

I have handheld green laser, runs from 18650, on laser power meter shows over 200mW.
It was selected from couple others by measuring output power.
Rumtime total maybe 5 minutes.
Can sell/trade.
Location: Poland.

yeah at least $100+ to build your own laser

REAL Bare M140 - $45 ($60 in module w/ proper lens)
Host - $10 > as much as you want to spend
Heat Sink - $10 > depends on host
Driver - $20 > $50
Battery contact - $5

Total - $105 if you do BARE minimum run of the mill stuff

Diode w/ driver combo - $89 (if you cant solder well I suggest this, plus its VERY easy to fry a diode. They are FRAGILE as all hell!!!)

Lasers are NOT cheap and really get a bad name from all the junk that china sells. Go ahead and buy one, but dont expect it to last long or it’ll be 80% IR, 20% actual 532nm. Real lasers are not cheap unless you go the cheapest route and do a 650nm and even then, you are looking at $75+

Highly suggest this as the best option for a first time build... nothing like killing a couple of $40 diodes to ruin your day.

I know they are more than you want to spend but here is what all out looks like

Yea those look pretty sweet. It was a friend of mine who was wanting the laser for use with her telescope, so I don’t think it needed to be a barn burner anyway. I was wondering if these ebay lasers might have a potentiometer on the board maybe??

the bottom one 405nm(301) got fried before I even got to see it because I didn’t know you’re supposed to put the battery in backwards. Anyways these were a lil less than $10 each

If your friend wants it for a telescope then he isnt going to be happy. 533nm is super bright and will ruij his night vision. 405nm isnt really visible at all even at higher powers…….lasers on telescopes dont really work how people want them to. More harm then help

yeah I don’t think she knows much about it. But now my feet are wet and I’m probably gonna have to join that laser forum and learn some stuff before I get my next fix. Thx for the help.

You really shouldn't cross 20mW 532nm for use with astronomy... anything more (and even 20mW is bright imho) and you ruin your nightvision.

+1 !!!

I have a 1 Watt 445nm built from “sci-fi lasers” (famous builder in laserpointerforums.com) and I give it for 50$ in its white paper box and two blue ultrafire (16340) batteries inside (without batteries 45:money_mouth_face:.

It’s almost unused and I bought it (as I remember right) last September.

(It’s not an upgraded or modified laser but for its price is superb!!!).

+1 too!!!
