wet/greasy look to flashlights?

So i tried to search but really didnt find anything so im asking here. im sure someone here knows and its probably a simple answer.

Just wondering why some flashlights have a greasy/wet look to them.

Example, some of my nitecores, my romisen rc-g2, a little aaa tank007 light i have all have a wet look to them, and when compared to my sunwayman d40a and my thrunite t10 those look very flat i guess would be the best way to describe them.

any ideas? better type of metal?

i think it has something to do with the anodyzing.
i actually see the more expensive lights using less wet/greasy look

I definitely like the flat style better.

My sunwayman d40a like i said is this “flat” style.

I ordered a nitecore ea41, and i haven’t yet received it yet, but from pictures and videos online, it looks “wet”

These are two lights that are similar in price, just interesting to see that.

Type 3 (the only true “hard ano”) is usually flat, type 2 is usually glossy.

This isn’t always true but it’s rare to see flat type 2, a little less rare to see glossy type 3. For example the type 2 ano on my convoy M2 is flat and very thick, they applied it more like a add-on coating than a surface finish, at the same time the type 3 on my Surefire host is glossy so it’s not a rule at all.

I know it’s not as durable, but I prefer the “wet” look anodizing versus the chalkboard flat look

It appears that the Romisen RC-A8 also has that greasy/wet look as if it had thread/O’ Ring lube all over it. :open_mouth:
