Banggood selling fake Nitecore charger? confirmed by Nitecore's website, if it's working.

I recently asked a question why my D2 was not reading the correct termination voltage. Fast forward 24 hours whilst reading the forum, someone posts a link to the Nitecore validation page. Long story short ‘code is incorrect’. Tried over and over. Time for a quick email to nitecore me thinks.

Oh and before anyone asks mine does say Nitecore, not Nitecorn Wink

I have tried the code again and Nitecore have confirmed the code is invalid and to contact them ASAP.

What’s going on there then you think? It would explain some of the issues.

One question, does all 2014 i4/ D4 3 pin UK plug come with "Nitecore" emboss logo? My i4 (2014) from Aliexpress batch in Nov/Dec did come with it, but I did not saw them in my last Jan '15 order with BG...

“The code has been verified at 25-02-2015 01:02 and it is invalid.”

This D4 was purchased thru Amazon. The packaging and charger look so good it’s hard to believe it might be a fake.
Do the counterfeit items usually look that good?

Forgot to note the voltage.

Thanks

Edit: This is the vendor – Sold by Join You and Fulfilled by Amazon.

I guess there are 2 versions of UK plug. Both should be authentic but the one with Nitecore logo is of better quality if I could remember (more than a hundred of NC chargers have passed through my hands last yr). I am aware of fake rumors in the past but I did not expect it to resurface so soon.

Banggood? = FAKE.  Yes, I can believe that from Banggood. Never been a trustworthy seller, no matter how much they make from us. In fact, I can believe that from most all overseas sellers. No matter how many times they lie, we still buy.

Tested my i2 2014 from bangood. I punched in the code but got no response at first, so I entered spaces between number like they are printed to sticker and hit enter again. At the same time I hit enter key, I saw that the response was received and the code was valid. And then it started to process my new command because I’ve already hit “enter” and said that the number with spaces is incorrect (as suspected). Next time I tried the original number, I got response “The code has been verified at 25-02-2015 02:02 and it is invalid. …. Thank you.”

It seems that the system only check if the code has been used before.

Btw, I have a “nitecore” logo on my EU lead as well.

It does make you wonder how much fake stuff is out there, probably more than the real stuff.

Maybe this is why people are getting problems lately with these chargers.

Mine was ‘invalid’ on first attempt.

That would be wrong. You could kill a whole lot of valid numbers by typing them into that system, to destroy the usefulness of the validation code.

Has anyone verified with Nitecore how their verification code works?

Like I said mine failed first time. The problem is a lot people will get comfort from sticker being there but probably not check it.

I bought a xtar vc2 charger that doesn't fully charge batteries, and lies about the actual voltage... I actually got on the xtar site and punched in the numbers to verify my charger, and it came up with similar hits, saying the code has been checked on XXXXX and it is invalid. I assumed I was putting the numbers in wrong and let it go, it has the fancy sticker it must be legit right?  ....i bought a liitokala charger and the xtar has been sitting in my toolbox unused.

Well, if their database just approves the number the first time someone asks about it, marks it off a list and thereafter reports it as invalid — that means a DDOS attack on the system could easily be automated to punch in all possible numbers, making them all invalid.

Nitecore wouldn’t be that stupid, would they?

Heck, that means if a retailer buys a box of them and checks the number — and finds they’re valid and then sells them — the BUYERS who bother checking will be told they’re invalid.

Does … not … compute …

It makes me want to check all the stuff I have received from them lately.

The funny thing is I bought some Panasonic PFs a few weeks ago and when doing some tailcap readings I noticed they could not keep up with my Sanyo FMs. I dismissed it but will take a closer look now.

I asked them to look at this topic and comment.
If more people do that, maybe they’ll investigate the problem.

nisse, have you checked a Nitecore validaation number on one bought from Banggood?

It’s not that everyone has had a problem.

Question is whether problems that do happen are part of a pattern, and how Banggood fixes them.

Banggood buys from wholesalers (or dropships stuff they’ve never even touched).
Like most Chinese sites they really don’t know what they’re selling, until people tell them about it.

You can look this stuff up: https://www.google.com/search?q=banggood+fake

Is it a fact that validation works and this charger is actually fake?

That’s not a bad idea.

I have a feeling they may not be fakes they just haven’t seen a Nitecore warehouse. The company that makes them makes 1000 units for nitecore. Then after 5.30PM make another 1000 units for a dodgy wholesaler. Some of these are sold to bangtidy. Job done until someone plays the Nitecore scratch card lottery. Nitecore just don’t have them numbers. Who knows.

Your thread listing is misleading, it makes it sound like you have had confirmation by Nitecore that this charger is Fake, but then I read through the thread and it seems that all you got was an automated response.

To call out BangGood without being 100% positive of this is not wise.
Just because the guys NiMh batteries got hot does not make the charger defective. Maybe the batteries have issues.
Maybe the charger does not like the resistance of the batteries.

The guy who says he had hot batteries did not note voltage readings, just stated the issue with the “code”
Too little solid info at this junction IMHO to call out the dogs.
Thanks,

Keith

My D4 from Banggood is genuine.

Order Placed Date:2015-01-05
Shipped Date:2015-01-13

SKU141026 NITECORE Digicharger D4 LCD Display Universal Smart Charger Country: EU x1 US$24.99

EDIT:

The second time i tried to validate the same code i got :
“The code has been verified at 25-02-2015 06:02 and it is invalid. Please contact 400 886 9828 for assistance concerning this matter. Thank you.”

So i think there is a problem with Nitecore site/validation logic.

Marcl, you started the thread — so you can edit the title.

Would you change that title? Nobody else can; look for the editing tool in the first post, as you view it.

“Nitecore problem with validation”

or something?

It’s not at all clear exactly who needs to fix what yet.
