Can BangGood/GearBest staff learn how to identify a hollow or solid pill?

BangGood been trying to understand. Watch them and see if they figure it out.
At last report, they figured out what a pill is, unscrewed one, and showed pictures of both the LED and the driver sides.

I replied “That is the ”pill” — it has a driver board on one side, and a LED on the other.
What’s in between? That’s the question.”

and gave them links to pictures showing pills opened up to see if they’re solid or hollow.

Will they open their flashlights up to answer the question?

Time will tell.

I say no. But I hope I’m wrong.

Marc.

well I have a few of those and I can confirm they’re hollow but I’ll let banggood learn some flashlight knowledge.

Don’t expect too much. Even I had difficulty remembering stuffs like these.

hoping that their staff can learn how to tell, and then actually put the information into descriptions (from the start, or at least when someone asks) for all their flashlights.

I am sure that you realise they are not flashlight professionals, probably not even flashlight enthusiasts, most of them are females that don’t even use flashlights. They are sales persons, they can check your order, see if some product is available in stock or when is expected to be available again if it is out of stock. Most of them only saw pictures of the product on the web product page and never actually hold the product in their hands. Many times business offices and warehouse are not the same building also some products may go directly from manufacturer to buyer…
You probably can imagine that e-cig smokers want to know how much ohms are coils, RC guys want to know products details related to their hobby and so on…
Can’t really blame them.
For US$3.45 you can presume solid hollow pill

Hollow Pillow?

> they are not flashlight professionals

Yup. But it never hurts to ask, and they did manage to take the pill out and show pictures of both sides of it.

And someone who’d bought one of those lights did follow up saying those are hollow pill, with a picture.

Goal being, like I said, to get that information available more easily. Now they know what it means.

With luck, someone there who actually picks out flashlights to carry will check and offer some — and find out that to some of us it’s a feature worth paying for.

Hey, it worked for DealMetic ZeusRay, sorta, improving a “hollow pillow” to a “solid pillow” for a couple of dollars more. And they never did understand it very well.

I’m starting to see places offering to sell pills separately from flashlights, here’s an example (no idea what’s inside it or if it’s any good):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Evolva-Hunting-T67-Grande-Flashlight-Torch-Replacement-LED-Module-Various-Option-/281588034476

They’re hollow. If you want one with a solid pill (thin, there’s not much space in there), buy a three mode of similar design from AE
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/CREE-LED-Flashlight-Torch-Led-Flash-Light-500LM-Sporlight-3-mode-Zoomable-Light-Lamp-Black-Golden/1949534646.html

I added that to the reference for “#3 zoomies” in the list (AA/AAA under $10) at Under $10, 1x AA/ AAA/ 10440/ 14500 flashlight reference

They posted a picture a buyer had provided showing a solid pill.
But the same buyer had also posted a picture showing a hollow pill.
I pointed that out.
They posted 2 more pictures their supplier sent them, that show the side view of the pill.
So the supplier also doesn’t understand the question.

I asked again.

If China declares war, it’s probably a mistake born out of frustration trying to understand English.

No.

Here I see a hollow pill

Ya know I agree — that’s a hollow one. Fooled me, I thought I was looking at a solid plate but that’s just the back of the LED. Dang.

Dead silence from Banggood, after we pointed out that their supplier was sending them pictures showing everything except whether the pill had a solid surface inside, all pictures taken from the side of the pill to hide the inside.

In related news:

Gearbest staff — also for selling a similarl #3 zoomie — has promised to look into theirs and find out what’s inside it!

EDIT Aug. 12th— they never could figure out what’s inside their flashlight, or possibly a manager told them not to take it apart.

Agreed

no they can’t
and they said that often have solid pill.
It’s wrong
But only crap flashlights received all with HOLLOW pill.
bad site

Dear Hank,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding CREE XPE Q5 600 Lumens 7W Zoomable LED Flashlight 1 x AA / 14500

Your original question is “What kind of pill is in this light— solid? or hollow? Here’s how to tell — unscrew the lens, lift out the black plastic washer with tweezers or a little screwdriver tip — then the LED will lift up (on its 2 wires) and you can see what’s under it — either solid aluminum (with 2 holes the wires come through) or else a hole. Feel free to say “ugh” if you have further questions.
