Heck of a chunky pill for an AA/14500 light, given that its no fatter and only 4mm longer than a Trustfire R5-A3.

Somebody must have already to claim over 600 lumen on that thing. Certainly they cant mean with a single Xp-G can they?
My thoughts exactly.......lol An XP-G could never get anywhere near that. But exaggerated lumen claims aside it certainly does appear a very modable pill with sufficient bulk/heatsinking to handle a reasonably driven XM-L.
I'm already spent overspent on August and September's budgets or I'd have pulled the trigger already, I'm dying to find out how well that XP-G alone is driven and the bezel looks like it could be smoothed down a fair bit.

KD has those that is the Trustfire R5A3 painted all black and it is not a real Romisen.

I am already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
I thought the Trustfie R5-A3 had a somewhat different aluminum pill compared to the brass one in the (fake) Romisen linked in the OP?

The real Trustfire has a threaded pill with a double stacked driver this one looks like it is pressed in, held in place by a plastic ring.
I am already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
It sure does, doesn't it with the emitter body side.....
Oh no, now on close-up I see its a brass stump, sprung presumably.

It's the Cyberport 888 technology that everyone is talking about!
This Romisen is a big disappointment, at least for me.
Regarding the 'chunky pill', I'm really not sure if this was supposed to be a joke and my irony detector needs some adjusting or not. Because this pill is almost as 'chunky' (read: tiny and lightweight!) as that of a black cat or tank007-703. And it's not even pressed in, it just sits there. Well, there is a small ring adding a tiny bit of pressure (the ring which connects the body to the driver), but it still hasn't got enough tight contact to other metal. I'm sure running it with 1A+ wil hurt the led over time. XM-L? Forget it.
That insulator disc is supposed to be this way btw. The pill design isn't bad per se, it works flawlessly, but it totally lacks heat transfer capabilities.
It has a fwd clicky which feels totally stupid in combination with the hi-med-strobe next mode memory driver. More precise: I hate it.
I (accidently) turned mine into a 1-mode while trying to mod the (pic12*-based) driver. It's ok now but I'd prefer the R5-A3 anytime, the latter is noticably brighter, too.
Threads feel good. Ah, I almost forgot: Not threads but thread: switch and tailcap are G-L-U-E-D! :/
@VFMaddict: Maybe add Romisen RC-R5 to the thread title?
thanks for the insight , sounds like junk to avoid
Like I wrote in the other thread: It's another shitty FAKE not by SZ Romisen Electronic Factory.
I had doubts about your Romisen fake theories before and at least this time I know it's not true. This model (and my copy) is verified genuine Romisen. I contacted Romisen before buying it off KD, they sent me photos (of the inside too) and told me it is 100% genuine.
Also forward clickies are extremely hard to find in china factories (as said by DX who tried to supply them) and wouldn't be used in a cheap fake.
So, original Romisen @KD and fake @ebay?
And your theory is that Romisen are making lower quality models that they don't sell themselves but let other companies sell? Doesn't make much sense.
I don't buy it because I don't see it on the official Romisen site. On top of that why would they copy a Trustfire and make a cheaper crappy copy of it, it doesn't make sense to me at all.

Wait so you're still thinking it's a fake even though it clearly isn't by their own words? You're rather trusting a website that says "News: NO NEWS" since 2011-1-18?
Their site lacks all newer models like RC-23, RC-U8 and RC-39 btw.
Checked that website. Those guys seem a little fake
When I saw this photo I instantly said it's a photo taken with a camera of a monitor. Then I saw the mouse cursor.
Haha, that picture is funny. I've always been thinking their building logo is ps'ed, too: http://www.szromisen.com/liko/Image/001/2010111616374487613.gif
That probably only means they built their site erm .. in a hurry lol.
What do you expect, they're a machine shop/factory, not web designers.
I'm surprised phlowcus got a reply. I asked about some lights on ebay once and didn't get one.

You don't have to be a web designer to post a real photo, or to take one. Actually the photos were already taken, since there are photos are of computer monitors. Funny indeed. Maybe it was cheaper this way
But the photos are real. You can see romisen lights in them. Maybe they didn't know how to do proper image resize. LOL.

Probably.
They've taken that photo with BenQ DC 740, a 7 MP camera. But it can also take photos at 1024X768, exactly like the images I've posted.
Well
they don't know how to resize a photo, but they can work with ASP.
Really? I can only see a bunch of SuperFires...
I stand corrected, sir. The "flame" part actually really looked the bottom of the "R" in the romisen logo w/ the blurry pic.

By who's words? I assume you didn't use the email address on szromisen.com
I know how to contact a company, thanks for assuming the opposite.
So on Alibaba or in your fantasy, whatever.
The conclusion is still that either these crappy lights are fake or Romisen (Mingxing Dongli Electronic Co., Ltd.) the whole company is in fact now a "fake", mostly copying Ultrafire and Trustfire designs using substandard parts. If I gave a crap I would have checked it out when i was at Romisen a few weeks ago but I had far more interesting things to do than checking for some lousy fake flashlights, maybe next time.
I don't know how phlowcus contacted them, but their website has an email.

I won one at auction on Ebay for like $8... got it in the mail - it is definitely a fake...
It's about as bright on high as my Lumens Factory E-series XP-G LV head on medium.
It DOES have a forward clicky... It does NOT seem well made...
Avoid at all costs...

Yup , same here. I bought 2 of romisen flashlight from ebay the last 2 weeks and both of them turn out to be fake. I'm so pissed of. Wasting my time waiting.
