RA601 pressure switch keeps cycleing through modes, cannot use it on rifle.

It won’t let me just use high at the pressure switch. I’m stuck cycling through all modes its so annoying.

I’d suggest swapping the driver for one that only has a single mode. Constantly cycling through modes is just asking for trouble

you need to replace the driver to a single mode one, the pressure switch just acts like the standard switch, so if it’s a next mode memory driver, it will start on next mode next time

Awe man what surprise. Help a brother out
Can you link me to a driver? I will learn to do it myself. I come from the rc and airsoft world.

Ok guys, can someone trasalte this for me in laymans?

“You need to open the middle of a flashlight and saw circuit board and springs. There is a gap in the circuit board, you can use a small crowbar to pry open, he saw the board components, removing a brown capacitor. Recovery. DIY modification on 1mode (ON / OFF)”

I was going to link you to a single mode driver from Mountain Electronics, but the site is still down for maintenance. If you take pictures of it taken apart I should be able to walk you through to process.

At the very minimum you will probably need good solder, a soldering iron, sponge, tweezers, some sort of vise or helping hands, and perhaps a small flat head screwdriver.

That would be awesome if you did that. I am going to post pictures when I get home.

Ive played with many ra601’s before. Just rub pencil on top of the tan square capacitor. Sometimes the ra601 driver does not reset back to high fast enough. Usually takes 4 swipes with the pencil. If you put too much lead on top of the capacitor it will have high only.

What light? Picture of driver?
How does it behave after removing the battery and waiting a minute? Does it start in high than?

In general there are some differnt methods:

  1. Modify the existent driver to always start in high(that’s the Instruktion you have Foun by Yourself)
  2. Make it direct drive with bypassing the driver(wouldn’t recommend that)
  3. Driver swap.

If you are new a complete new light with a new good battery and driver maybe the best overall solution;) because the first light often is garbage…

I will post when I get home.

I want it high only, its only used for a tactical light. I noticed my MT21A is brightest has the hotspot when it first turns on, then the RA601 becomes brighter. I would have got the RA602 but it was too big. I have the XPE because I love its throw. Is there a way to drop in a EZ900 on overdrive? It’s souly a weapon light for airsoft, my son is prone to getting it shot out. Do they make lens protectors for these?

Ok guys, pictures!
Thank you so much for the help.
I was not confident at first, but so far, nothing is broken.

Often you can bypass the output pin of the microcontroller with a small piece of wire, but it would be hard for me to tell you what to do unless you have a scope and multimeter. I’d suggest just replacing the driver completely.
If you are in the US I’d suggest you wait a day or two for mtnelectronics.com to be back from maintenance and order a single mode driver from there

Just 4 to 6 swipes of pencil on the bottom right tan capacitor will allow the driver to return to high after 5 seconds. 7 to 10 swipes will give you high only when it returns to high less than a second. If you want the ra601 to be brighter just ditch the pressure switch. It is almost half output with the pressure switch due to resistance from the long wiring. Keep the driver. It is a decent 3amp driver.

Awe :frowning: what would you suggest?
Pencil? My solder? Sorry I dont know the lingo here. I am also using trustfire 18650. I know nothing better for the money. Perhaps a better quality battery would help?

If you have a real trustfire then you will be ok. It depends where you bought it because there are a lot of fakes out there. I didnt realize you said that you have the ra601 with xpe. So you dont have the 3amp driver with that. Basically you just take a pencil lead/graphite and draw lines across that lower right tan/cream colored capacitor. You draw the lines on the top from metal end to metal end across the color. It should take about 5 swipes to get the driver to return to high mode within a few seconds. More than 5 swipes will make the driver return to high mode so fast that you will never see the other modes. Basically you draw lines with the pencil on top of the capacitor. 5-10 lines.

Post a pic of your trustfire 18650 in sunlight or incandescent light. Ive seen many fakes in my days. Also a pic of the negative gold colored end.

Will post pics which I get off work.
Thank you so much for your help.
Since its a weapon light, I can live without any mode other then high. So I swipe it up good with the penicil.

So I did the lead thing.
Did not make a difference. I put 10 swipes. Not sure what I did wrong.
