Fenix LD41 2015 edition,uses 4*AA batteries and max 960 lumens.

Fenix released the LD41 2015 Edition,powered by four AA batteries,max 960 lumens.

I have afew of the original version Max 520 lumen and i really like it, i have 4 of them 2 for general use and the other 2 are in mine and the missus BOB’s. That should demonstrate the level of trust i have in the 2013 model.

There is a 2014 edition with a max 680 Lumen so make sure you get the version you want.

There is one tip i will pass on the differance between the 2013 and 2014 is the caddy and it’s circuit, if you want to upgrade the output of your 2013 model with the clear caddy it is possable to buy the 2014 white plastic caddy seperately and it drops in, dunno about the 2015 haven’t got one and will not waste my money on it. To be honest i preffer the 2013 model and have bought several “spare” 2013 clear caddies to upgrade the 2014 model to the spec i want :).

I wish fenix would do several different or a programable caddies but they seem to caught up in the how many top end lumens they can get to the determinant of other modes across all there models now. Till they make general user flashlights again i’ll spend my money elsewhere sunwayman/thrunite, just incase fenix actually read this.

if cheap, ill buy it.

words to live by

if crazy cheap, I`ll buy 2 ;)

I looks like it will be sixty-ish so not so cheap.

Seems like everybody jumped onto the EA4 bandwagon

EA41 do you mean ? if so no way, both my EA4W’s burned out so i buy Sunwaymam D40A’s if i want mini coke can form factor.

I will most likely buy acouple more LD41 2013 versions ethier second hand or online as there price drops due to a new version. UK price for the LD41 2015 is about the £65 / $100 mark for a light idon’t want anyway.

For the money, I think the Sunwayman or the Thrunite are smarter buys.

I really like this format.

What are some other competition lights?

I dont recall seeing other lights in this shape. I like that it takes regular AA and the long run times on low.

Jetbeam pa40, Starry Light SA-22, Streamlight 4AA ProPolymer, Terralux Colorado, Underwater Kinetics are the only none fenix ones i know of, link is to batteryjunction.com 4 x AA flashlight page.

Most makers jumped on the mini coke can form factor, Nitecore EA41, EA4; Fenix E41; Sunwayman D40A, F40A; Eagletac GX25A3; IMALENT SA04; Lumintop SD10; JetBeam SRA40.

I have 3 of the D40A’s myself 2 warm NW tint and 1 CW and they are good lights but i find the 2 + 2 side by side more comfortable in the hand no matter what duration while after an hour or so i get cramps in my fingers with the mini coke can type. I am part of the local Search and Rescue Team and when we search the moors for idiot holiday makers who are lost i use the LD41 rather than the D40A no contest, the duel control buttons on the tail are what i really like and alot more comfortable to carry.

Thanks for the info. I was really interested in the Starry Light, but I read it had plastic threads or some issue like that some people were not too happy with. So I decided to pass. I really like AA lights so I think my next light (I hope) will be something in this form factor. Cheers.

The Starry Light i got from the group buy i would say is good value for the money, but the quality of the plastic body and hence the threads is low. Mine has been slathered in silicon grease since i got it and has shown no signs of wear after maybe 100 opening and closings before it got relegated to the SHTF draw and give to someone i dislike. I also find the body abit thin in the hands for my taste buy racket wrap or bicycle foam covers could be used to bulk it out.

In contrast my plastic bodied fenix E40’s have seen heavy used and abuse for years by my family and have shown thread zero wear, you get what you pay for that being said i would not recommend them for serious flashoholics. I have gifted several to none flashoholics who love them.

For those that worry about the LD41’s metal body in cold conditions i would say use racket handle wrap or the foam slide on grips for bicycles.

If someone wants the 2x2 side by side form factor the LD41 is still the gold standard and with the introduction of the 2015 mode old stock of the LD41 2013 and 2014 versions should be abit cheaper. Also watch the secondhand market ethier on the forum or from ebay i have picked up 2 fairly cheaply that way and i hope to get acouple more  .

thats the problem, its a great light, but after 100-150 recharges the threads give out

I have over 2 dozen fenix lights going back to 2007 and beginning with the L1T and L2T with rebel emitters and have never had one fail on me, there quality has always been to notch.

It has only been recently i have moved to other makers purely because i dislike how they have now setup there UI’s and there new found fascination with top end lumens at the expense of the runtime of the lower more regularly used modes. But that is just my personnel option with the world going to hell in a handbasket practical get my money and loyality, waves at Thrunite ;).

If anyone has the new model 2015 LD41 and one of the older models i would likee to know if the caddies are still cross compatible, as that would make the 2015 model far more attractive to me. The ability to buy a 2013 model caddy for $15 and swap for longer runtimes and the new model caddy for higher lumens would be a winner. Shame noone has made compatible caddies with more modes or great efficiency.

Looks neat, if I hadnt bought SA22, D40A and EA8 this would be on top of the list!

Mine just came today! Now I have one of each of the 3 versions!!!
I love the LD41 form factor and I love AA power!I am using Duracell 2400mah made in Japan cells.I am one of those who fear inhaling HF gas so no lithiums in use here.I have wanted something closer to 1K lumens so I am very pleased. Both of the earlier models have decent runtimes and nice output choices. This new LD41 is a hammer.Ideal for peeking out back when I want a lot of light….the earlier lights are better rounded for all-round use. That being said…this light tailstands great…which is a bit of a fail since without a 80ish lumen out setting it won’t run long in a power fail situation. The earlier models are much better for that.
So it is a decent power AA hammer with great ergos!I like it a lot!

I am glad I have every model…bases covered.
