Now we need Cree to wake up and release some high amp emitters binned on & for copper DTP mcpcb’s, we all know they can do much more than 3A.

Because some manufacturers are scared to build lights out of spec on the emitter.

The bins line up with normal XP-L’s if you look at the luminous flux (lm) measurement. Looks like dedoming drops the output by 3 bins(ish).

There is no scare, look at the interior lights everyone uses 700mA and 1A for LEDs like XP-G2, everyone wants long life and efficiency (which is better at normal currents than any max rating or any so called over-driving). I guess flashlight world is quite different, anyway nowadays we have TN36 at 5A-6A per 1 XM-L.

Yeah this was just lame. Where is the new XM-L3 1300+ lm @ 10 W (85°C)? 8)

I am talking about for example Uniquefire, and i am sure countless other flashlight manufacturer, that don’t dare release a light out of spec. It is for those more conservative parts of the industry we need Cree to acknowledge, the very real possibility & reality that when using a DTP copper mcpcb, the Cree led’s can be driven much harder within safe parameters, than the current max spec of 3A.

We have the High Density & now High Intensity, Now we need the next step the High Output Cree binned Emitter. With for example fatter or extra bondwires to share the load, i suspect we can drive these led’s even harder but we are limited by the bond wires that burn up much sooner that needed.

Awesome!  From the announcement it looks like there will be an entire line of emitters without domes.  This will be a huge time saver.

Mountain Electronics : batteries, Noctigon, and much more! What's new?

I don’t have any de-domed to give you, or I’d be on it! If you’re serious, I’m sure someone here would be happy to take you up on that deal. Wink Now, if you want to send me the twenty domed and give me a couple days to de-dome and send ten back to you, I’d be happy to do that for you! Silly

I feel the same way. Now I just need to order a Meteor 43 and 12 of these new domeless XP-L!

It looks like the widened optics would still be needed for the XP-L high intensity ones. The highest bin listed is a V2 - a straight droppage of 3 bins which could match the results we've seen de-doming.

Well, I'll get 'em as fast as I can, but there's no ETA at the moment.  I was the first to get the U4s, but I doubt that I will be the first here as well.

I came across mention that LED color changes are known over time from operating where there are volatile chemicals (including from plastics or thermal compounds) that can get into the phosphors.
I’d guess the flat clear layer is to seal the phosphor (and perhaps that’s one reason people see color change after dedoming, though I’d be guessing on that).

That would be a good question to pose to RMM as I’ve read where he mentions using LED seal when he dedomes leds. RMM, can you tell a difference in the tint of leds that you dedome after using led seal?

Read the references — there are observations of tint change due to volatile chemicals that can get into phosphors — but the devil is in the details:
how much time does it take (and is that operating time while heated, or exposure time after some amount of heating starts something gassing out? which chemical, and which phosphor (many emitters use more than one phosphor). Oh, and what solder was used? what flux? what else is inside the container (flashlight head, for us)?

It doesn’t seen to be a simple easy issue.
