POP Lite R8 - 32650 light that charges a cell phone!

Link to DX Product Page

Here is a video they have on the light. WARNING: The music is absurd.

It looks like a ripoff of the LED Lenser design. Sadly, it uses an old XPG (I HATE XPG LEDs.). The on board battery chargers have always made me a little nervous. But the higher capacity of a 32650 is appealing. Almost a hundred bucks is a big turnoff too. However, it looks well made and that deep reflector should be good for a LONG throw.

Thoughts?

Does Pop Lite make anything other than copies of LED Lenser designs?

Has anybody got a source of protected 32650 batteries?

many thanks.

You got me all excited. I went over the Lenser site. I wish they had something like this. The only way they resemble each other is their profile. The Lenser M14 has the adjustable focus, which I like. The workmanship looks good on both. Looks like Lenser isn’t saying who makes their LED, so I don’t know if it is better than the XPG or not, but the Pop Lite R8 has far and away more lumens, and it uses the 32650 instead Alkalines. Pop Lite’s new R9 looks like the same light with the Cree XM-L T6 LED. With all of the stuff that comes with it, you couldn’t buy the parts for what they sell it for, which is the way it should be for any mass produced product. The Lenser M14 is $81.74 at Amazon vs. $95 for the R8/R9. The Lenser M14 has zoom, but no A/C charger, no DC charger, no USB to cell phone charger, no aluminum case, no batteries, cannot run Lithium Ions, and not nearly as bright. It’s the same price as the Fenix TK35. It has no cheap and confusing tail cap clickey nonsense. If there was anyone awake at Maglite, they would have had the R9 two years ago by expending no more effort than a Google search and copying what Jayrob does from his basement. The R8/R9 is to flashlights what a smartphone is to cell phones. If I could find their R9 on shelves, I’d buy it. If I could have it exactly the way I wanted it, the R9 would also have an aspheric lens w/zoom, and a second 32650.
