Lengthening 18650s

I have some 18650s that need to be longer.

BEsides adding a solder blob to them (I dont have access to soldering equipment plus I lack the skills), what else can I do?

The 18650s are meant to go into a battery carrier.

Can I super glue some magnets to the 18650s?

Thank you for any input!

Don’t solder and Don’t glue unless absolutely needed. You won’t be able to use them in anything else if you glue them.

Do you have any other suggestions besides buying ones that fit in the carrier?

Magnets?

The danger of using magnets without superglue is that they can shift around and short out the battery if they touch the wall. Maybe a weaker form of glue that will keep them in place without being permanent?

I would use a magnet but instead of gluing to the 18650 I’d glue it into a plastic disk / washer just to keep it from shifting out of place. I would cut a plastic disk out of a soda bottle cap.

@ryansoh3: I miss your old avatar already! :_(

Would you be able to provide some pics or drawings?

I am having problems picturing that in my head.

How would the electrons be conducted as the plastic washer is impeding them?

I would place the magnet into a hole in the middle of a 18mm diameter plastic disk. The plastic just serves to keep the magnet centered. No risk of shifting out of place.

ah ok. sort of like a cap for the 18650 with the magnet in the middle so as to conduct the electrons. Gotcha.

But now I would need to fabricate such a thing. sigh.

Please the solutions rolling in!

Wrap electrical tape around battery and magnet if they are the same diameter. If different diameter, wrap tape around outside of magnet only.

Thanks for that. Might try that one

I am actually gonna super glue several local coins that are just slight smaller than 18mm (17.7mm to be exact) and use them as spacers. They shouldnt move around due to the pressure exerted on them by the springs.

What do you guys think?

Would my method increase the resistance of the batt carrier?

Some non-conductive glues used in magnets will cut the electrical flow. You can buy longer springs for the carrier, I tried it in my K40 carrier.

Most torches are anodised inside, so won’t short.
