Custom 18650 Titanium Host - Triple XP-Ls, Copper Pill, Trits

UPDATE – 07.07.15

Another update for you all, the machining is going great!

The only thing left to do is the battery tube. The one in the pictures below was only the first prototype which is why its not threaded fully in the neck and why the knurling/tailcap isn’t right. I think the rest of the light looks great though!! and look at that massive chunk of copper!!

_______________________________________________________

UPDATE – 05.07.2015

Some more progress has been made with machining of the prototype. Rey is also working out the best way to utilise an EE X6 switch mechanism which will be better for the high current builds.

Some nice big chunks or copper ready to be turned into heatsinks…

First head being machined…

Finished head on the original X6 and the BLF Ti battery tubes…

_______________________________________________________

UPDATE – 02/07/15

There are new spots available and it will be first in best dressed. In total there will be 10 lights made with trits in the head and tail and 8 lights made with just one trit in the tail and a smooth head. If people who are in the first list want to move to the 1 trit list I am happy to move you but once all spots are filled thats it… I can swap people around if they want to swap places etc. and if there are more people who want “no” trits we can possibly swap the list to 8 with and 10 without. Still working on the name and each light will get a production number 1/10 – 1/8 etc. not sure how we will write it yet.

The design of the light is progressing well. The design has been changed to a battery tube with separate tail cap rather than one piece like the BLF Ti so we can use an X6 switch which Rey is sourcing from EE. This will allow us to modify the switch for less resistance. A test of the knurling has been done as shown below, don’t worry about the fade out at the end of the knurling, the knurling will be finished by machining each end down. The tube is going to be 23mm diameter and the tailcap will be 25mm diameter. The limitation being the material is 25mm. The pill set up is similar to that of a C8 with a threaded neck and a one piece big copper pill which threads into the neck and has a pocket in the bottom for a 17mm driver. We are also looking into machining a lip under the bezel edge for retaining the oring

Anyway bear with us, we are working to make this as good as possible and are taking more time to make sure it comes out right.

__________________________________________________________

Okay, so this is an updated render with a 24mm battery tube diameter (same as X6) and it has been shortened a little as the last one was longer than it should have been…

I’m not sure if the fins section should have a curved profile like the X6 or not. I kind of like them both ways. Also the gap at the head and bezel joint won’t be as pronounced as it looks. The will actually be hard up against each other like bezels usually are.

UPDATE – 04/06/2015

Rey has completed the first 3D drawings and personally I think they look great. One thing to mention is the size of the trit slots in the head isn’t confirmed yet as we are unsure of what sizes will be commonly available. So they may become a little smaller but this will be confirmed. However we are sticking with having 8 of them evenly spaced around the head.

Other than that I think it looks really good!

___________________________________________________________

Hi all, I approached Rey a little while ago about making me a custom one off Ti light which is similar in proportions to the Eagle Eyes X6.

After some discussions we decided to do a limited run of 10 units only. This is due to a number of factors but in particular the cost of the material, the price of the light and it’s nice to have something which is a bit unique.

The concept for the light is to have a classic style with clean lines and it will essentially be a mix up of an EE X6, Tain Hyperlux and the current BLF Ti light which Rey is doing.

The design concept is to have a head with proportions and fins the same as the X6 but where the knurling is on the X6 it will be smooth with (12×2mm) trits positioned vertically around the head. It will utilise a pure copper pill which will be screwed in like a C8 set up (think Nitro/DBCstm X6 copper heatsink combined with a C8 pill) and will be designed to use a 32mm Triple Noctigon and Ledil Cute 3-up optic like we did with the X6. The switch will be the same as the current BLF Ti light and the battery tube will be a one piece 18650 version of the current BLF Ti light with the “corn” knurling centralised in the battery tube.

I know it probably is hard to picture at the moment, but if you imagine the lines and styling of an X6/Hyperlux with some tweaks to the design.

At this stage the host including the copper pill will be $150USD. Trits will be on top of this depending on the qty you would like. Rey also mentioned he should be able to get the 32mm triple noctigons and cute optics which would allow him to supply the host essentially ready to go minus the driver.

I hope to get a 3D render done soon so everyone can get a better idea of what the light will look like.

For now though, if you are keen to get your hands on one of these lights please post below and I will add your name to the list. Please only post if you genuinely interested as there is limited spots available.

Okay, so please only look at this as a concept as I just quickly sketched it on some graph paper and the “corn” knurling looks far more boxy than it should/would be. But this is the idea…

I am working on it, I am doing up a hand sketch at the moment which will give an idea and Rey has said he will get a 3D render done.

So I have added a quick sketch to the OP. As I say, it is only a quick sketch, but it is sort of direction it is going. The trit location is to be confirmed still. I would like to see it in a 3D render first.

Saypat, those are selling used in the neighborhood of $1000 so start saving the pennies :~ . If you google Tain Hyperlux you’ll see more photos of the incredible variations of it, and the unreal tailswitch options it had.

I am a HUGE fan of knurling, as seen in the Tain Hyperlux (the more aggressive the knurling, the better for me. I CAN’T STAND the useless knurling on lights like the convoys and nitecores (to name a few). If you knurled this light similar to the Tain for example (I am not saying replicate, but just style of knurling), I would definitely be in for one, pending more drawings or samples.

Unfortunately Rey isn’t able to to get that sort of knurling done, I have already mentioned it to him. Howevere this knurling will provide a good degree of separation between our light and the X6 or Hyperlux.

I believe it was a TnC design called the SFIII and Tain got permission to use it.

This whole idea has partially come about because I have always wanted a Hyperlux but wasn’t going to be spending $1000 on one. So I figured the next best thing was get my own one made with those sort of lines. With the Eagle Eyes X6 having a very similar design it was easy to come up with something which crosses between both of the lights but is still very much it’s own design.

I would like to see a similar small run of the current ReyLight in copper.

This is gonna be SWEET! Y’all know I love’s me X6’s, and I’m a Ti fanatic from way back. Together, OMG! And yes, the Hyperlux has had me drooling for quite a while, so for this to come to fruition I absolutely MUST be in on it!

I know, I’m posting at the bottom but my name is at the top….that’s because I’ve been in on it from the get-go. Thanks LSX for thinking of me alongside this brilliant idea. I will definitely give it the most potent driver and emitter combination I possibly can. Wink

Rey, You, my man, are AWESOME!

Sorry, all spots have been filled at this stage. You will be first backup though if one of the current 10 decides to pull out.

I’m glad to be part of this project… To me the X6 is one of the nicest single cell mod-ready lights, head to head with the C8 and S2. I’ve built 3 ×6s so far with different emitter options in each and I’m really happy with the builds. I’m sure this one will turn out amazing.

See? I’m not the only one!

I have 10 ×6’s ranging from a single XM-L2 at 1794 lumens to a single XHP-70 that has a modified extension tube on it for 2 cells, making 5502 lumens…. and several triples and Quads in between. I have built around 20, with a bag full of reflectors and stock drivers.

My last build was #10, utilizing the big copper sink designed for a quad…. modified it to fit a Fraen diamond patterned reflector and fitted it with an SBT-70 emitter. While it “only” makes 1500 lumens, it pulls 17.41A at the tail.

This one will be the piece de resistance though, can’t wait!

I love your enthusiasm Dale!

Hopefully we can pull this off as planned and everyone will be happy with the finished product. I can picture it all in my head, it’s just a matter of making that a reality now.
