Hugsby XP-2/XP-1 regulation?

Does anyone know how the regulation works in these Hugsby AAA lights? I was using my XP-1 head with XP-2 body (2*AAA) and noticed after about 10 minutes the light suddenly reduced its brightness to way less than half. If I turn the light off and on again quickly it comes on bright but very quickly reduces brightness. Does that mean its some sort of low voltage step down? Seems weird to me because these lights aren’t intended for li-ion use :~

What kind of battery were you using? Could this be a battery issue?

Hmmmm, a 1-cell head on a 2-cell body — could it be running twice the voltage overheated the emitter?

I don’t think its a battery issue, if I put fresh batteries in it doesn’t do it for quite a while. It seems when the batteries get to a low enough voltage it kicks in
