I understand if I de-dome an emitter I loose lumens, color tint drops, but I increase throw.
So if I de-dome a XM-L2 would it now throw like a XP-G2?

Yes, and a bit better if you go for maximal output: by dedoming you loose somewhere around 10% of the output, the apparent die size is close to XP-G2, but the XM-L2, if driven to the max, has double the output of the XP-G2 (minus that 10% upon dedoming).
