NEW EagleTac D25C & D25A Ti - *2015 Edition*

Well, I haven't seen it mentioned here yet:

Suppose this was inevitable; especially as it has been only 3-weeks since I bought my 2014 D25C Ti!

http://www.eagletac.com/html/d25tircnew/features/index.html

I cannot find the length dimensions of the 2015 model but it seems to look longer than the 2014.

Actually think I prefer the style of the 2014 edition; this new one looks too 'piece-y' to me. A bit like when multiple battery-tube extenders are added in line (like DQG Hobi and V11R-aa style).

But this has XP-L HD emitter. Do we think this is this the same as 'HI' high-intensity?.

Probably going to end up with one regardless of how much I try to talk myself out of it!

I think high density (domed) is not high intensity (domeless).

Yes, you're quite correct. Just found the Cree spec-sheet and they are indeed two different emitters:

http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED%20Components%20and%20Modules/XLamp/Data%20and%20Binning/ds%20XPL.pdf

I mistakenly thought regular XP-L (domed) was adjective-less. Turns out the normal one is called 'HD'.

Shame they don’t offer the 18650 in Ti.

Yeah agreed. This could easily have been offered with a simple battery extender.

The driver already supports the required voltage range, so why don't the manufacturers just make a single head design and sell various body sizes.

This argument applies even more so to the NiteCore Ex11 range. They all share the same head width! EC11 supports 18350, so why not just extend it with an included/optional battery-tube like they did with the SRT3. Then the EC11 could have been used with 18650 cells. And even AA support if the owner is willing to put up with a little extra girth over the EA11 (and possibly lose any 1.5v optimization!)

EagleTac could have done the same with most of their offerings within a model range.

I'm beginning to think the manufacturers can see us coming, and this is just a cash-extraction game. Duh!

Wish to see what TX25C2 can do with XPL HI

Since I plan to mod it anyways I ordered the D25C Ti 2014 XP-G2, for $44.95 shipped this thing is a STEAL.

Stock as is, it throws better than anything in this size and the construction is among the best I’ve seen. Threads are really smooth and the clip sits firmly in place. I expected it to be dim but little light is bright, even with a CR123! It also comes with AR lens and GITD switch boot.

And the best part? The bezel can be easily unscrewed to access the 17.75mm reflector and LED which is mounted on a 14mm standard aluminium mcpcb with a very nice XP centering ring. Pill is made from brass and it is press fit. Driver diameter room measures 17.3mm so it’s perfect to fit a FET+1 in there. But wait, there’s more: tailcap unscrews even without having to remove the pocket clip, it has a (possibly) silver coated spring and a small switch the size of an Omtem, easy replacement there.

This is HEAVEN for any modder looking for a compact EDC and make it into a true pocket rocket. Mine will have a XP-L HI V3 2B and FET+1 driver.

I have the 2013 model d25c (with XM-L2), and Iike the stock driver so much (pwm-less true moon!) that I just updated the led to 6A1 80CRI :-)

Where is this deal found?

Free shipping is only eligible with orders above $50, but if you add another item, apply the code “freeship”, then remove the item then the free shipping will remain. US only…

Awesome Thanks…

Can you comment on how the driver is removed?

Press fit pill?

The pill doesn’t come apart, it is press fit. You unscrew the bezel, remove the lens and reflector and you’ll see the shelf, basically an integrated shelf with brass to improve a bit on heat sinking/conductivity. Driver is also press fit.

This is why the D25A cannot be modded, because there is no bezel, they install the oring, lens and reflector into the empty head from the back, then press the pill with the LED and centering ring already in place. Or at least I believe they do it this way, it seems like the head is a single piece and eagletac mentions that it can’t have the lens replaced, and the same reason why Vinh only mods the D25C.

Start modding people…

2014 version now $40 over Illumn

I’ve got a Nichia version coming. No led swap needed, but I’m planning a circuit swap.

Awesome, I’ve got a 2015 XP-L version on the way, I’ll see if it comes apart as easily.

Thanks for the tip. My D25C is now running a Dr Jones driver, lucidrv /ft. Love it.
