First impressions / brief review of my OLight S80 Baton from Gearbest

Yesterday (7/6/2015) I received my S80 from Gearbest. This light was ordered on Jun 11 2015 when Gearbest had them on sale for an incredible price. The tracking number was NL and it never worked for me. Later I asked CSgearbest and found out this tracking number was only valid inside China and will never track correctly on USPS or 17track. They do not provide free tracking for items less than $40. But it showed up anyway, in a timely manner.

The package is a large flat white envelope. Inside there is a white cardboard box. Inside the box there is a AC charger separately packed with a typical OLIGHT plastic box. The accessories include the charger, a power plug converter from US to China standard, manual, a split ring, warranty card, a snap on diffuser and a holster. The battery was inside the light during transportation. The light was in lock mode though. I had trouble firing it up until I read the manual. Always read the manual guys!

It feels very good in hand. Not small for sure. But feels hefty and solid. It is a single 26650 light. So it is slim comparing to 4xAA light or multi-18650 soup can light. The body is about 32mm diameter, head about 38mm. Feels great in my hand (small).

There are three main modes, low medium and high. Low is around 10-15 lumens by eye. High is quite satisfying, comparable to my current EDC Nitecore MH20. It is a little brighter than I expected. Happily surprised.

Here comes the pictures. Enough talking.

Feels solid and comfortable.

Size comparison with nitecore MH20, my current favorite.

Business end comparison

S80 and the included 4000mAh 26650.

Notice the 26650 is special. Both + and - are on bottom. I remember someone was asking what battery comes with S80 in a thread.

The other ends

Finally beamshot comparison of S80 and MH20. (left MH20, right S80)

For the price I paid, this light is a steal. It has the light, battery, charger and a diffuser. An incredible value. Especially good for gifting to non-flasholic people.

Thanks to GearBest for this amazing sale item! Thanks for reading!

Ordered one, never even sent..

pity, as it looks like a nice deal

You sure you did not get one? I was frustrated until I found out the tracking number was not supposed to work at all. Then I just waited out.

Ordered two at that insanely low price, got both, and I am sad I didn’t order more! Best deal I’ve seen in a long time!

What does the charger that came with yours look like?

Great, i expect mine too.
It is one of the last buys i made before the bank ban.

That has to be a difficult thing to be dealing with! I feel for you!

Thanks, my problem as a hobbyist is small, people can’t work after that. It is a nightmare for market here.

I am at work. Will post a picture when back home.
But it looks just like a general 6v/12v AC to DC power supply.

Thanks for the review, patiently waiting for mine, and thanks for the battery picture. I was wondering if they were going to send the proprietary battery
Looks like a nice light and the price was a steal
Don’t much care for the white switch button but that’s pretty petty.

Okay thanks. I got mine last week and it is amazing, but they included the EU adapter… :~

What was the deal price?

$25.99

Exactly what I want to express.

On low I can see PWM if I look carefully. The frequency is high enough for me to not notice it most of the time. And I am very sensitive to PWM. So no worries here.

I forgot to take a photo for the charger. But found some picture with a similar one.

Thanks sesgum. I think I finally found one from fasttech.

Does this flashlight use a proprietary battery?

If so, how do you use it when the orig. battery takes a crap?

Yes it is a proprietary battery. I don’t know what to do when battery goes bad. Should be good for a few years.
And I should be able to buy a same or similar battery from OLight later.

Yeah that will do.
