Oracle 24x9

I was given an Oracle 24x9 hid flashlight that does not work. The owner also included a brand new battery that he had bought in hopes of solving the problem, which, of course, it did not. I finally managed to reach someone at Oracle, and was told that the bulb and ballast is not replaceable, and to throw the light away and buy a new one. This just does not sound right with this. Has anyone ever had to replace a bulb or ballast, and is it possible? I can’t imagine just throwing away an almost $300 flashlight because of a bad bulb and/or ballast!

Non replaceable bulb? Then told to just to toss the $300 light… and buy a new one? I think not.

As long as the light isn’t glued / solidly sealed shut then you should be able to replace a bulb.

Who did you speak to?

Hi Halo, Thanks for your reply. I spoke with Melissa at AAC. Also recieved the same reply by e-mail. Not sure who answered the e-mail as it was not signed. It’s just hard to believe that a $300 light would be disposable!

You could always rip her guts out and replace them with led tech.

I’ve thought about that. I’ve also thought about buying one of the generic 24 watt bulb and ballast combos off of the internet and trying to find a way of adapting it to fit the oracle.

AbikerBoy,

Remove the bezel, glass lens, then carefully lift out the reflector and being careful not to touch it with bare hands. There should be 3 phillips head screws holding the bulb/ballast, which is one modular unit in the head. Once the last screw is removed, the bulb/ballast should fall out of the battery tube from the cap end. I’d then remove the screws from the bulb side of the ballast, post some photos and see if one of us can come up with a fix for you.

Hi, I have not forgotten this thread. I’ve just had a lot going on in the last few days. As soon as I can get back on it, I will take the light apart and post some pics.
