Where to get large 3 emitter reflector?

Hi all,

Recently someone sent me a Fenix TK70. Great light, but time for an upgrade. All was well accept that this light has a plastic reflector. No problem for XMLs but for hard driven XHP-70s this is a big problem.

Anyone happen to know where to get a 3-6 emitter reflector that is larger than 50mm and metal (without buying a 50+ dollar light) OD of the factory one is about 92mm.

Thanks

Would it be possible to use 3 full size reflectors to suit, though the XHP70's in smaller reflectors tend not to be throwers.

I guess I should have mentioned that it does need to be a solid piece. The owner greatly prefers not to have any empty space between the reflectors. :)

Id test the stock reflector with the XHP70’s first to see if it survives. My guess is that it will do just fine, as long as the light isnt left on long enough to burn your hand. If not, a BTU shocker reflector might be made to fit.

Ya, that was actually my first thought too. Since the reflector is suspended above the emitters I thought I could get away with it. Maglite reflectors are plastic after all.

However it was not long before the reflector began to haze from the heat. This light has 3 XHP-70s on 12V boards in par driven by 4 x 26650s. With all the copper added to it its about 5 pounds and still it gets hot :)

That shocker reflector would work if I could find one without having to buy a 65 dollar light.

I was actually expecting the reflector in the TK to be the same as that. I just figured all the look alikes were a basic clone of TK I never expected that the higher end light would be the one with the cheap reflector.

I think OL and someone else have/had a spare shocker reflector. Try PMing him and maybe put up an add. Ledil has some interesting reflectors optimized for XHP70, where 3 will fit right into the TK70/Shocker (you need to add a thick chunk of AL or copper to bridge the gap).

Ive done several “super shocker” mods and have noted the TK70 reflector to be more efficient. Not sure if its the reflective surface or a more carefully optimized shape, but it does throw more light at the exact same power levels (with XML2). IMO, its a carefully designed reflector that saves a ton of weight. Ive also never read of a Fenix plastic reflector meltdown in modded lights. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain if it works out. The BTU reflector is an unnecessarily heavy chunk of AL and probably the only one that will drop right in. All the TK70 clones Ive seen are poorly constructed (by comparison) scaled down 26650 versions, so those reflectors wouldnt fit anyway.

Good luck!

I see KD has a lot to sell but not sure if they fit yr light

BTU shocker is about it. I don't know of any aftermarket 3up reflectors, like you want. If I did, I would have already done one. SP03 also has a 3up, but I cannot remember the OD of it. I don't have any spare reflectors like that. My stock is very low. You could try Ric from CNQG and see if he can get one, or possibly another seller. Only way I know of, short of buying the whole light.
