What else should I be considering ?

Greetings Flashlight Enthusiasts, first post. I need a good light for spotting 4 legged critters. Some large some small. Front and side Property need to see 2 - 250 yards Out back about 150yds. I’m looking at this. JETBeam WL-S4 High-Intensity LED Searchlight - 2600 Lumens - CREE MT-G2 LED - Runs on 4x CR123A/RCR123A or 2x 18650 Jetbeam WL-S4. Trying to keep it under $100.00 if possible. I’m a Flash noobie, what else should I be Looking at? Looking for a strong wider beam out to about 250 yards. Thanks

Check this out: The first link is my suggestion. Leaves you money for spare batteries and a charger too.

Or a modified Uniqefire T20, 2 batteries and a charger for less than $90.

Sorry i could not resist, but are you looking to spot critters or Club them to death!

He may be spotting the kinda critters that would like to eat you too?

get the dedomed m24 from RMM! MAXTOCH M24

Whatever you choose, make sure that you get one that is rated to throw At Least twice the distance you will be using it at - 3x or 4x is better yet.

For instance, a light rated at 250yds will only put 1/4 Lux on your target at that distance, and you will not be able spot an animal with that.

So for 250 yards pick a light with a rating of 500 - 1000yds.

A 500yd light will put 4x the light on target as a 250yd light, but that is still only 1 lumen. - A 1000yd light will place 16x what the 250 will do, 4 lumens.

Thanks,
-Chuck

Thanks for The feedback. The M24 looks nice. I’m probably too caught up in the max lumen thing. Will a quality thrower (like the m24) put more light down range than the WL-S4? It’s 2600 lumen vs 1200 lumen but I suspect that’s not telling the whole story.

No need to spend anywhere near $100. Search for eagleeye x6 or x6r $22 right now from their website XPL HI should give you everything you are looking for.

I’ll check it out, thanks. I wish the K40m could still be had for around $85.00 Clams. $129.00 seems a little steep. The Coyotes are thick tonight. Maybe I need the official “ACME” combo Anvil/Flashlight

If you want a strong wide beam, I would suggest you avoid the M24 as it will have a very narrow beam. I suggest you get the K40M if you can get it for a good price under $100. If you can’t get that K40M for under $100, then I suggest you consider the Nitecore TM16 as there are some nice deals for it right now.

Yea, when I first started in flashlights I got caught up in the lumens thing. The truth is, though, that lumens are only part of the picture. It really comes down to a combination of those plus candela. If you’re looking for distance, candela is probably the number you want to focus on. It represents the intensity of the light at a distance. The higher that number, the more distance you’ll get; however, the more focused the beam will be.
