Ok after the first view results of the first pole I realized I need to expand the question and answers.

Has anybody even seen all these tints/bins? Maybe if you work at Cree or some of the sellers. These leds are pretty new.

V3 2B is missing, it was sold at intl outdoor. Really nice tint!

V2 3C and V2 1A also missing in the poll.

Your bins are not up to date.

For instance, I have a P60 Drop In on the way with XP-L HI V3 2B.

Might have prefered a 2A, but this early in the game you have to take what you can get.

Thanks,
-Chuck

These tints are not that new, they were ignored before without any real reason in my opinion. We had 2C 2B 2A for sale years ago.

I'd say anything from the E1 group is nice, really it is not that big of difference between them like like it is from 1A to 1B. The one I have not seen is 2D.

Don’t know if this helps, but I did a little tint comparison some time ago.

Picture shows four lines, each with the same lights and samed camera settings. Only thing that changes from line to line is the LED in the RA601. There is a 2A tint, which I quite like. This LED is now installed in a light of a friend of mine, and he really likes it. It’s still cool white, but not as cool as your typical 1A-1D tints. Tint bin of the Nichia 219A is sw45, the one of the Thrunite Lynx is maybe something like a 1C, I would guess. The G25C2 has the older XM-L in a relatively bluish tint, which I actually like, there is no green in it, even in the lowest modes. I haven’t seen a 2B or 2C yet, but with 1x, 3x and 4x tints, I happened to like the D and A tints the most, since the B and C sometimes look a little greenish, especially when compared directly to their A and D counterparts.

I would prefer 5a to 7d, so I voted V2 2d.

Wow. I did not expect this. Why is none voting for 2C? I would have expected to see 2C lead but in fact 2D is dominating. Anyone care to explain?

2D CW is right next to 3A NW and 3D NW is right next to that. I suspect 2D is in that sweet spot. I’d love to try out the 2D tint if I could find it.

2D is preferred while no one has any experience with it, so then one prefers something over something while probably has not seen any of the 2C 2B 2A option anyway. Smile

Got to say, I have been really enjoying the V3 2B XP-L HI from RMM in my BLF A6… It is the right kind of white for me… I put a V6 2C in another one to rid myself of the blueberry 1A and like it too… I am really wanting to see all of the 2 series, but I tend to not like the A and D below the Black Body Locus like most do.

If you have any other experience with the 2 series, post it… It is my new favorite tint series..

I have not seen the 2A or 2D in person…

I can’t speak for the others, but for some time now I avoid tints in the B or C region and only use A or D variants. A and D are leaning to the red side of the color spectrum whereas B and C are leaning to the green side of the color spectrum (aka “puke-white”).
This is at least the case from 0B to 4C/5C. Take a look:

The A and D bins fall on the correct side of the blackbody line, so they are preferred. The 3* bins are closest to sunlight, so they are preferred (especially 3D).

Some prefer a warmer neutral like 4* or 5*, but these are not as popular. And some prefer a colder white like 1* or 2*, especially if it’s a higher lumen rating, but again these are not as popular. And a few like it really warm, like 7*.

So, I think people picked the option closest to 3D.

Edit: The point is that people vary in their tint preference, but overall the most popular tints are the ones which are closest to sunlight, about 5000K with high CRI and perhaps erring slightly toward pink instead of green.

I think people are just guessing .

i've been a tint snob for years and have never seen or had most of these tints .

if you like a tint then go for it . everyone is different .

why do you care what others like ? are you making a group buy ?

I was asking my brother in-law if he liked the expensive coffe that I'd brought with me on vacation and he asked me .."Do you like it ..?... then who cares what i think ."

kind of a good point i thought

Now i think i just don't like my brother in -law Silly

Yes you do.

and a little Factoid if you match the ANSI chart the loved 5000k MT-G2 falls smack on the intersection of 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D so choose your bias I hear 3D has the least green and the best CRI.

So please add the four A,B,C,D choices for #3 and #4

02 lumens

It’s probably too late now. It would be helpful if those were included in the original poll a month ago, but at this point I doubt new options would be useful.

As always TK good point.

Or the thread has been rebooted once maybe reboot it again (if the data is valuable enough).

Or maybe the answer has been gleened from this thread already.

I’ve wanted to see 2D for a long time. I hope mitko can get the leftover reel. Don’t have any B’s but the C tints all have had the green corona in the spill. I have a 7 and like the warm tint but it’s harder to see anything as contrast is not as strong.

Love my 4D. I prefer a slightly rosier glow to my beam, than a slightly golden beam. 2D was the closest to my preference:

Rule 1-1 as it applies to life, take it as it comes.
