3rd Annual BLF Scratch Made Light Contest - Winners announced!

3rd Annual BLF Scratch Made Light Contest - Final results!

Judges have been working very hard and the results are in.

People's Choice Award voting is still active. Please show your appreciation and vote here: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/42158

This year's competition was very tight and all finished lights were absolutely magnificent! This made judging very difficult, and we had to make tough decisions when arranging the contestants to correct order.

While judging we not only concentrated on what we think was the best light in the competition, but went through all the build threads and systematically gave points based on the following criteria:

  • Uniqueness/Innovativeness of the build: Is it a one of a kind? Different? Using New methods?
  • Skill level of the finished build: Does it look like a hack job? Or were the finished parts/assemblies done with skill and care?
  • Thoroughness of the build thread: Did the builder do a good job of showing and explaining to the forum how he did the steps in the build?
  • Documenting also the failures & obstacles: How did the builder solve the inevitable problems? Documenting the obstacles and using the power of the BLF community to solve them is seen as a big plus!
  • Following the guidelines: Did the builder follow the rules and guidelines written in the contest thread?
As I said, all finished lights were great, so also the thoroughness of the build thread and documenting the obstacles was an important factor when defining the final order.

Before going to the results, I'd like to thank once more all competitors for their hard work building the lights and documenting their builds for us readers to admire and learn from. Thank You very much! Smile

..and then to results.

Hand made:

The winner in hand made category was described by judges like this: "Superbly original and innovative, serious skill", "Masterpiece build as expected." "Had to deduct a point for little to no issue documentation.  Did he really have any issues?"  "The guy knows exactly what he is doing and how to do it.".

Who might it be? You might guess..

It's...

1. DBSAR

2. n10sivern

3. FmC

4. Lancman

5. alpg88

6. OscarM

Machine made:

The winner in machine made category was described by judges like this: "Fantastic fit and finish.", "Another amazing light!", "Well documented in all ways."

Who's work could be described like that?

Well..

It's...

1. MRsDNF

2. DB Custom

3. vestureofblood

4. kralyevski

Congratulations to the winners! (And in this case, everyone who finished their light is a winner!)

Now, all prizes will be put into one pool, and contestants can now pick the prize of their choice in the following order:

1. DBSAR
2. MRsDNF
3. n10sivern
4. DB Custom

I have to say first congratulations to everyone who participated in this years comp, as it was so very much enjoyable seeing others but their skills to work creating unique, amazing works of art based around the reason why we are all here on BLF.

The effort that was put in from all concerned in the flashlight of sorts building comp in my opinion was exceptional from all concerned. The creativity blows me away and the abilities to build their dreams simply orsm.

And to the backroom boys and girls (?) this comp would not happen without you all. The sponsors, well what do I say as we all like prizes and thank them for the support shown.

The build lights from members here to give away are also to an exceptional standard and show the uniqueness of these individuals.

What more can I say but thanks again all.Smile

Congrats DBSAR. A worthy winner.

Congratulations and many thanks to everyone involved. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a small part of this event.

Reading through this year’s amazing builds has been both educational and inspirational.
I would like to particularly acknowledge the generosity of those members who have given up a lot of their own time and money to create unique prizes for this competition. Bravo! Smile

Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s contest!

  • Huge thanks to _the_ for organizing all this, he bent over backwards to make everything work smoothly.
  • Many thanks to the vendors and other generous members here that offered the tempting prizes.
  • Much appreciation goes out to the judges that used their time and insight to rank the participants.
  • And of course, where would the participants be without all of our users to cheer them on during the build process! It was really heartening to see the amount of support and interest the build threads received.
  • And last but definitely not least: Congratulations to everyone who participated in this contest! I’m all thumbs and I like to congratulate myself when I manage to thread a lanyard onto a flashlight, Silly but I also have an eye for detail and I recognize quality when I see it. And let me tell you, the builds this year exhibited an incredible amount of time, effort, expense, and above all— skill! We have an unbelievable group of craftsmen and craftswomen around here, and it’s fascinating to see what you managed to come up with.

Thanks so much to everyone, and we’ll see you all back for next year’s contest!

well…not exactly how we use those words…

“сијалица” is big bulb

“сијаличка” is small bulb
if you google images for those it is more accurate Big Smile

Congrats to all winners once again!

Surprised no one has nabbed that S30 TI yet. Knowing Dale’s affinity for that particular spot on the periodic table it shouldn’t be available much longer.

Sorry I was slow claiming my prize. I had a question about the sinner light before I chose it. Plus I work at night and sleep during the day. I want to thanks everybody for their help and support during this build. I especially want to thank the, the judges and sponsors, and vendors/suppliers. It was an incredible learning experience for me. I’ve already started planning next years contest build but I bet I can’t wait until then Wink My mind is swirling with about 10 different ideas.

Three tomatoes are walking down the street- a poppa tomato, a momma tomato, and a little baby tomato. Baby tomato starts lagging behind. Poppa tomato gets angry, goes over to the baby tomato, and smooches him… and says, Catch up.

Wow, I get to pick a prize? I thought the light I built was prize enough, so much pure satisfaction in the learning curve and seeing it actually come to fruition…
Thanks guys, really appreciate the confidence inspiring compliments.

Now, which way did he go? lol I have a smaller Olight Titanium, the 10 something or other, and while Ti is truly a fav I’m getting too many Ti lights and I can’t have a favorite if there’s too many, right?

DB SAR’s steampunk build really really enthralls me, so I am going to have to pick that gorgeous unique chunk of copper goodness! Smile With Mother’s polish and Renaissance Wax standing by, I claim the awesome Steampunk Light. Woohooo! (when I saw it come to completion in his thread I was like Man I’d love to have one like that!)

Unbelievable, y’all built some fantastic lights and it’s just incredible watching what happens on this forum, what a great place to spend all my time, ignoring my real family. Wink
