3rd Annual BLF Scratch Made Light Contest - Winners announced!

3rd Annual BLF Scratch Made Light Contest - Final results!

Judges have been working very hard and the results are in.

People's Choice Award voting is still active. Please show your appreciation and vote here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/72710

This year's competition was very tight and all finished lights were absolutely magnificent! This made judging very difficult, and we had to make tough decisions when arranging the contestants to correct order.

While judging we not only concentrated on what we think was the best light in the competition, but went through all the build threads and systematically gave points based on the following criteria:

  • Uniqueness/Innovativeness of the build: Is it a one of a kind? Different? Using New methods?
  • Skill level of the finished build: Does it look like a hack job? Or were the finished parts/assemblies done with skill and care?
  • Thoroughness of the build thread: Did the builder do a good job of showing and explaining to the forum how he did the steps in the build?
  • Documenting also the failures & obstacles: How did the builder solve the inevitable problems? Documenting the obstacles and using the power of the BLF community to solve them is seen as a big plus!
  • Following the guidelines: Did the builder follow the rules and guidelines written in the contest thread?
As I said, all finished lights were great, so also the thoroughness of the build thread and documenting the obstacles was an important factor when defining the final order.

Before going to the results, I'd like to thank once more all competitors for their hard work building the lights and documenting their builds for us readers to admire and learn from. Thank You very much! :)

..and then to results.

The winner in hand made category was described by judges like this: "Superbly original and innovative, serious skill", "Masterpiece build as expected." Congratulations to everyone this year was amazing for the competition…

Congratulations everyone you’ve done very well!

Congratulations and many thanks to everyone involved. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a small part of this event.

Reading through this year’s amazing builds has been both educational and inspirational.
I would like to particularly acknowledge the generosity of those members who have given up a lot of their own time and money to create unique prizes for this competition. Bravo!

Congratulations to all participants, i would like to announce that for next years contest (if the organizers allow) one of the prizes for Peoples Choice Awards will be ” С И Ј А Л И Ц А “… (not to be confused with this years ”сијаличка”)

Congratulations to all the contenders! I have not always posted in the individual threads, but have read and everything with a lot of joy and admiration :-)

Looking forward to next year's contest already!

Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s contest!

  • Huge thanks to _the_ for organizing all this, he bent over backwards to make everything work smoothly.
  • Many thanks to the vendors and other generous members here that offered the tempting prizes.
  • Much appreciation goes out to the judges that used their time and insight to rank the participants.
  • And of course, where would the participants be without all of our users to cheer them on during the build process! It was really heartening to see the amount of support and interest the build threads received.
  • And last but definitely not least: Congratulations to everyone who participated in this contest! I’m all thumbs and I like to congratulate myself when I manage to thread a lanyard onto a flashlight, :stuck_out_tongue: but I also have an eye for detail and I recognize quality when I see it. And let me tell you, the builds this year exhibited an incredible amount of time, effort, expense, and above all— skill! We have an unbelievable group of craftsmen and craftswomen around here, and it’s fascinating to see what you managed to come up with.

Thanks so much to everyone, and we’ll see you all back for next year’s contest!

Congrats to all!
