(Closed) Jaxman U1 365nm UV flashlight, group buy with Tinywind

Update oct. 29th. Saphire informed me that they had initially ordered 50 flashlights, they will be shipped this evening. There have been 73 orders thusfar (of the 84 discount codes that I have sent out), the 23 leftover will be shipped one week later.

__________________________________________________________________

Update oct, 28th. The group buy is closed. I hope that everyone received their codes and managed to do the order, without or with the help of Wanita. And I hope that the lights will indeed be sent out coming friday, as planned. And that they will be awesome! Smile

___________________________________________________________________

Update oct 21st. With the first orders being placed, some problems arise: tracking seems not possible for this light, and if more than one light is bought, the discount is only counted once (workaround: order seperately). I informed Wanita about all this, I hope she will fix things when she is back in the office.

____________________________________________________________________

Update oct 21st. The group buy will end on october 27th.

____________________________________________________________________

Update oct 21st. A placeholder is made on Tinywind for the Jaxman U1: http://www.tinywind.com/jaxman-365nm-18650-flashlight-black-p-17090.html

Wanita is fast with giving out coupon codes, there're already there. I asked to wait with the codes until the flashlights had arrived in the Tinywind warehouse, so that after payment the waiting would be not too long (once you payed, you get nervous and impatient so it has proven to be). Wanita replied that she'd rather have me send out the codes now, with the promise that the flashlights will be shipped out next friday. That sounded quite resolute, so I will send out the codes tonight. There's $8 codes, and $10 codes for the people who did not receive their Romisen UV-light.

_____________________________________________________________________

Update oct 20th. It is confirmed that the group can go over 50 pieces. I suggested to run this gb for one more week and then close it.

_____________________________________________________________________

Update oct 19th. We are almost at 50, sooner than expected and unfortunately I have not settled yet with Tinywind what happens if we get over 50. I have asked a few questions to Wanita from Tinywind but she's away now and will not be back until tomorrow.. I assume we can just get over 50 no problem, but mind the small chance that your entry will not be honoured.

____________________________________________________________________

As I have an impeccable record in hosting group buys Wink here's a next one. Discussing several options with Tinywind how to make up for the people who did not receive their lights in the Romisen group buy, I suggested this flashlight for a next group buy. It now looks like that Tinywind is not again going into a custom light adventure very soon, and this flashlight I think is a good option in stock form.

The group buy is for a Jaxman U1, a 365nm UV flashlight that has a UV-pass filter, that blocks any visible light that comes out of the led while transmitting the UV.

The light will sell at Tinywind for $29,99, but the group buy price will be $21.99 shipped, if 50 pieces are signed up for. In addition, people who have missed out on the Romisen double UV group buy get an extra $2 discount, it will be $19.99 for them. (when posting interest for this group buy, could you please mention if you are a Romisen group buy participant who missed out on it)

As this will come from a new supplier for Tinywind, the group buy price is not unbelievably low but still good. Details of how the coupons will be given out will follow, but I stressed that payment only takes place when the flashlights have arrived in the Tinywind warehouse, so that there's no extra waiting after payment before the lights can be sent out to the participants.

I do not own a sample for testing, nor do I know anyone who owns one (it is not for sale in many places), but the Jaxman brand (which appears the same as Jax) is known for the Jax Z1, which is a high quality aspheric flashlight, so I expect good building quality for this one as well. And it is the only UV flashlight using a UV-pass filter, which is a very good feature I found for improving the output quality of the UV-light (see my review of a ZWB2 UV-pass filter for use in 365nm flashlights). Some comments on the used filter is in post #9. The UV-led used in this flashlight is this one:

It looks like the same one that intl-outdoor sells and that I did a review on a year ago. The only difference is that the led on the above picture looks less messy made than the one tested (updated production process?).

, but to not confuse things: the Jaxman U1 also comes in a much more expensive version ($60 on Aliexpress) with a Nichia 276A U365 led, that Nichia led version is not the subject of this group buy (it would cost too much). Here's a link to the manufacturer's page (for the Nichia version btw).

For reference: the price for this Flashlight from the only seller that accepts Paypal is $34.95 shipped, on Aliexpress it is $30.55 shipped, only if you buy 10 on Aliexpress it is $21.40/piece shipped.

For the record, I talked to Jubeldum about this group buy and he mentioned that Simon is going to release a Convoy S2+ with a Nichia 365nm led one of these days as well. I do not know the selling price (Nichia's are not cheap, expect a significantly higher price) -edit: Simon will sell them for $22.11, the Nichia276A has come down in price significantly Smile , I'm curious about a comparison with this Jaxman since the price will be comparable!- but this would of course be competition for this group buy light. My tests show that a chinese 365nm led with a ZWB2 UV-pass filter gives off less visible light than the Nichia 365nm leds, my guess is that this group buy light gives off less UV-light than the upcoming Convoy, but of better quality.

Enough said, below I will keep a list of who signed in for this light ('m' stands for 'missed the RoMiSen group buy' and should get the light for $19.99 instead of $21.99):

Well Djozz, what can I say?

This certainly is an attractive offer.

However, I ordered and paid for two Romisen UV lights on the last GB and received nothing.
I even still haven’t received any funds back from Tinywind.

If I enter this GB and Tinywind deducts the outstanding money from the Romisen GB, I’am in.

May be better if you can get sample first to know they using about same lens that you tested or else.

From Jaxman’s Aliexpress site, they using same pictures for their listing of 365nm Nichia and standard one , so one of it or both is not right.

Looks like good host though.

Hi Nico, send a PM to BLF-member tinywind.com asking for a refund, mentioning your name and, if you have one, the order number. I'm not aware of the exact arrangements that Tinywind made with people who missed out on that group buy, but as far as I know everyone who asked for a refund has gotten that in a timely manner.

Well that figures, lol. I actually already have this light on order. It hasn’t arrived yet or I’d share my impressions, but I will update when it arrives as I may be the first to receive it. Guess that’s what my extra 10 bucks bought me… Smile

I doubt that I'm getting a review sample, I believe that the order is not going out before this group buy seems succesful (the order of events will probably be: 50 lights are signed up for -> Tinywind orders the lights -> lights are payed for and send out to participants)

But this is the transmission graph that Jaxman provides, I like that they seem to have their own measurements done:

This is the transmission graph that is provided with the ZWB2 filter that i tested (look at the green line for ZWB2):

It seems like they differ not so much, could be the same filter even.

An impression would be great, especially if you have a 365nm flashlight to compare it with?

Oh, FYI, Saphire went on marriage leave, her work is done by 'Wanita' now, and she mentioned yesterday that she's on business trip until tuesday.

I do not know how Tinywind is going to sort that out. The best they can do is just refund all people who have not been refunded yet, and I suggested that a few days ago. It seems like they also offered a $19.99 coupon to people (for non-discounted items, and not suitable for this group buy) instead of a refund. It sounds to me like a logistic nightmare for them to transfer the payment for the Romisen group buy to the Jaxman group buy light.

Personally I would just ask for a refund, perhaps best by PM to BLF-member tinywind.com, mentioning your name and if available the ordernumber. Mind that it seems that Wanita, who is standing in for Saphire at the moment, is not available for answering PM's until tuesday.

I don’t, unfortunately. I had borrowed a buddy’s Nitecore CU6 a few weeks ago and kept it a while, so I kinda know what a decent UV light should do, but its already gone back home. One of my biggest gripes with the CU6, and most UV lights for that matter, is the amount of “visible” purple light that leaks out of them. The bandpass filter on this light is what attracted me to it. Regardless I’ll post some thoughts when it arrives, for whatever they’re worth Smile

I updated the OP with the question if participants would please note if they are participants of the RoMiSen group buy who did not receive that light? That is because I'm not entirely sure if Tinywind will be able to reproduce a list of the BLF-names of people who lights were actually sent to.

I am one of the participants of the RoMiSen group buy who did not receive that light, and have already been refunded by Tinywind (Order Number: 734)

How does this LED http://intl-outdoor.com/noctigon-xp16-v2-uv-365nm-led-p-835.html compare to the one used, or is it the same?

I assume it is the same led (Royalighting RY-3535P) because it looks identical, but Jaxman does not give a brand name.

I’ll take one.

Edit: I participated in the Romisen GB, but did not get my light and have not rec’d refund

No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
