Olight PL - 1 Valkyrie review (400 lm, XP-L+Blue,CR123A)

Greetings,

This review will be dedicated to a new flashlight from Olight, the PL - 1 Valkyrie. This is the first flashlight from Olight that was designed to be pistol mounted without any additional accessories.

So, what’s interesting with this new model?

1. First Olight flashlight specially designed to be weapon-mount
2. 2 buttons that have the same function on both sides of the flashlight, easy operation
3. Main XP-L LED, and two additional blue LED’s

Unfortunately I don’t own a pistol, so some parts of the review will stay only in theory

Shall we start?

The flashlight comes in rather large plastic box

The flashlight comes with a CR123A battery (non-rechargeable), a tool and another attachment that can be used to mount the flashlight to a different pistols (it comes “ready” for Glock pistol).

The battery is sealed, obviously it has to be unsealed in order to operate the flashlight (as I discovered, while trying to operate the flashlight first time in the dark)

User Manual

Here is the light. It look and feels very solid and heavy in hand. The buttons are rather soft, covered with a thick resin (or silicone). The body of the flashlight is made entirely from aluminum.

Here is that XP-L. No quality issues detected with any part of the flashlight, including bezel, glass and LED centering.

Some more shots from another angle. We can see a handle, that is used in order to attach the flashlight to the pistol.

Open and close positions of the handle

The negative contact is achieved using a spring

The driver is being removed with the reflector in order to change the battery. The positive lead is surprisingly not being handled by a spring.

Here are the blue LED’s in actions. Besides blue color, they also emit UV, so the flashlight can also be used to detect fake bills, as regular white parer illuminates differently.
The battery compartment is not too tight, a protected RCR123A is being handled without any problem.

Regarding the operation…

A single press on any of the buttons turns the flashlight on and off.
Pressing both button simultaneously turns on the blue leds, regardless of the flashlight status.
A double click enables strobe mode.
Holding the button while the flashlight is off, enables “momentary on” - the flashlight stays on as long as you are holding the button.

Some observation regarding the flashlight size

I don’t have any complaints regarding the light. A floody flashlight, a huge hotspot, no tint of any kind detected, a plain (cold) white light.

Great, don’t you think?

No surprises here, it is not a thrower, and never claimed to be

Conclusion, final words

Without actually using the flashlight with a pistol it is hard to say much, but from what I understand it is a good flashlight, with an easy operation and fitted to left and right handed people, as well as different pistols.

I’d like to thank Olight for providing the flashlight for the review

Questions? Requests? I would be happy to assist.

Thanks for the review. It looks pretty nice. I see it has more than enough throw for my meager pistol skills and a nice flood for close up work.

Thanks for review!

Looks like a neat light, pitty the price is so high!

Also, you live in Israel, review a weapons light and yet dont have a pistol, thats odd :D!

Thank you.
Yeah, now when I own a weapon light getting a gun is a must

Hehe, good thinking :D!
