NEED HELP: What is the best light to mount on a rifle?

I don't know anything about flashlights. I want to get a flashlight with a 1inch tube to fit a mount for a rifle. I want the light to cover a large area (width) but also have enough lighting through out that area (at least 100 yards). What do I buy?

I would recommend a XML with a good size reflector...this should give you a large enough hotspot but also a fair amount of throw. Could you give us some more information about your needs? (e.g what are you hunting, what battery type do you prefer etc...).

Edit: If you do not mind using 18650 Li-ion batteries I would recommend this: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/trustfire-cree-x9-xm-lt6-5-mode-1000-lumen-memory-white-led-flashlight-with-battery-set-1x18650-92038

Just one thing to watch though... because of the size of reflector on this it may not fit with your scope. From measuring the distance from the center of the torch mount ring to parallel with the objective lens of you scope you should be able to tell if it will fit: if the distance is more then about 3cm it will fit..if it is less...it is unlikely that it will fit.

BTW...welcome to the forum.

thanks the response :) I need it for an AK47 that i will use for hunting. I need it to cover a wide horizontal field of view. I ordered a $15 Ultrafire 502b XML T6 w a 18650 trustfire battery. I know thats probably not the best choice but it was pretty cheap. Do you think there is a big difference between that the trustfire with the bigger reflector vs the ultrafire that i got?

oh and I needed a pressure switch as well.

Make sure you have 2 springs for the batteries not all drivers have springs. Most ultrafire P-60 drop in lights work good I prefer one mode.

I am pretty sure this pressure switch works but not 100% positive.

As far as I am aware there is no pressure switch for the WF-502B (at least on DX).

Stasfire... just a note for next time you intend to start a thread...please make sure it is in the correct sub-forum.

I think he is talking about an actual AK-47...not a driver board :~ . This got me curious...what are you hunting Stasfire (and where)? I have heard of guys over here in NZ using SKS's and the likes to destroy mobs of goats...but an AK47? surely you would do better with a good bolt action?

I’m curious as well, huning with a ak47 seems like you’re hunting very large game or zombies.

lol hunting with an AK47 say wah !! Surprised

Kind of like cutting taxes on the top creates jobs. Look at top tax rates 1957 vs 1967 vs 1977 vs 1997 vs 2007. Now look at job creation those same years. Unless, of course, you think sportsman means success regardless of skill, in which case an AK 47 might not be that bad of choice

i know its not practical. i guess its just a something i wanted to add to the ak. for hunting i have a regular bolt action rifle.

Good lord!

That gun looks mean...

I thought my hunting rifle was bad @ss that thing is a beast. Same caliber though.

I prefer my 500S&W Saiga…

It is a newer mini 30 it might be a Hogue the bedding is nice. It fits really tight it's a nice shooter it shoots better than I do. I might have over done it with the Nikon scope, that should be on a bolt action. The thicker barrels on the new minis shoot a lot better than the older ones. I have an old mini 14 and this is like night and day, especially once the barrel heats up.

Interesting point about the ballistics. I can see your point. I just come from a different era. Can't get over the thought of taking a machine gun hunting. My first hunting experiences were with a single shot. To this day I don't think I own a gun with more than a 5 round magzine -- except possibly one .22. It offends my sense of competence as a hunter to need more than 1 round.

Have to admit that both the guns shown in the pics would be great fun to play with though!

It’s illegal to hunt with a machine gun. The rifle he is talking about is semiauto. Spray firing just wastes ammo. Aimed fire kills doesn’t matter the platform: semi, bolt, lever, etc…

Am new to the forum.

When I see a question on this forum about needing a light for a rifle (ak, sks, bolt, ar15 or whatever) I assume they are in Texas and will use it to eradicate hogs.

I know it is not always a guy from texas (NH above) but I make an assumption.

Texas has declared war on wild feral hogs and it is legal to eradicate them 24/7/365 with any legally owned weapon (including full auto and suppressed or NFA) using night vision, thermal, lights and anything else except explosives. Helicopters are legal, too.

I bought my 2 throwers from advice on this forum and have been testing heavily.

Guys I run with are impressed w/ cheap throwers that go 200 to 300+ and can make out individual tree limbs up in brush thru scope.
