Hello from England.

Hello

This place has been very much addictive for the last few week’s with some great information for someone starting out, thanks to everyone who’s contributed to this forum.

I’ve purchased a few cheap lights but wanted something slightly better so I got myself a Convoy X3 host, XHP-70 and Qlite driver with the intention of adding some 7135’s later on.

I better ask about it in the appropriate place as it won’t work! haha

Hi Andrew-W,welcome to the forum

Welcome

It's a pleasure to know you, Andrew-W!

Thanks everyone!

Welcome! I’m a newish UK member as well, and looks like you’ve got a good set to start with!

Welcome to the forum Andrew, you’ll need to Zener mod the Qlite driver and run it from 2 - 3.7v cells.

Welcome to BLF Andrew

Welcome to the forum!

As pointed out by Rbd, a XHP70 runs at 6V or 12V and can not be run from a single li-ion cell, like in the X3. And if you do run it on two cells in series, a normal qlite driver will not work without modification (the double voltage will fry the control chip).

hello,welcome!

Thanks!

It all becomes clear, haha.

I’m not sure if I can get an extension tube to fit an additional cell, I did consider buying another X3 assuming one tube would screw into another but I’ve just realised that the thread’s at each end of the tube aren’t the same which is annoying. It looks like it’s not going to be possible to use the XHP70 in the X3 and I’m going to have to look for another host.

Hi Andrew,
I think you got these from me right?

I didn’t realise you were planning on using the XHP70 with the qlite driver, or I would have said something!

But the X3 is an awesome host for a single led with a 26650 battery!

You could also think about using x3 14500 batteries in a 2S1P setup that would power a 6V led like the XHP70
You would have a lower battery capacity, but it would work

James

Hello James

Yes, that was me.

You weren’t to know what I wanted the part’s for, the X3 is a nice torch and the fact that it won’t work with the xhp70 is fine. I’ll figure out the maximum setup for the X3 and have a think about what I can use the xhp70 for.

I’m not really aiming to just get the one torch, it’s a nice little hobby buying bit’s and pieces and seeing what’s possible. 8)

Well that’s how I started!

I’ve got some more stock on the way, including the convoy L2 which should be one hell of a light

If you need a driver for the XHP70 check out the LD-2 on my website, with the x2 li-ion parts

You can stick that in the X3 with 2 18350’s if you want, or wait for a bigger light with 2 18650’s

Welcome to the forum, enjoy !
