ATTN D11 v2 Users!

So recently theres been a lot fo talk about nitecores quality control (not necessarily on this forum). Ive only owned 2 nitecores up until recently (IFE1 and NDI) but Ive been more than happy with them. I purchased 2 D11v2s recently (a week or 2 apart from 2 different retailers).

When I received the first the first after playing with it and carrying it for a few days I was ecstatic. The output, the size of the light, the supposed runtime, and the ui had me hooked. I simply dismissed others complaints about nitecore.

That was until now. Every time I purchase a new light I read about them more and more. I had remembered reading someone saying they had two different version 2s of their EX11. I didnt see anyone reporting anything about D11s so I just ignored it.

Well just today i received my second D11 and yep, seems there's 2 different versions. You can tell the second apart due to the writing on the head. Besides the big V2 on one flat side, it mentions V2 on the other side as well (where it says Smart PD D11 R5). The other version reads Smart PD D11 V2 R5). I looked over both lights thoroughly. My "old" version tail stands perfectly. This "new" version tail stands, but its positioned on the piston. What I mean is the piston sticks out past the body, but since the piston is flat its able to tailstand.

Next I took 2 fully charged eneloops that read just about the same charge (+-0.01 difference) and placed the lights on high and let them run. A little over an hour and a half later the "new" version had dropped down in output. Some 20 minutes later the "old" version had dropped also but the "new" must have dropped yet again because it was even dimmer.

I took the batteries out and measured the voltage. I should have wrote it down but I believe the "new" was at .8 and dropping while the "old" was steady around .9. I didnt get to check current draw so I dont know whats going on here. I didnt run the lights till they were dead so I dont know if its some type of different regulation or if one just simply draws a lot more than the other.

All in all I still like these lights but Im a little upset with nitecore. I hate having to buy a light and pray I get the correct one. It already bothers me enough that we have to play the tint lottery with many manufacturers but now I have to worry about a version lottery also? This is what also keeps me from purchasing the V10r (multiple versions).

I was going to write a review but Ill hold off until I can get this settled.

Okwchin. I know you have multiple D11s. Any input? Anyone else have any ideas? I put in two charged eneloops, wrote down the voltage and put them away. Ill check in a couple days to see if one has more parasitic drain than the other.

BTW, the tint on both of these are exactly the same, creamy white :).

Manufacturing Variances may account for the piston ...

As for the run --- you'd want to check current draw on both lights , Hmmm Been thinking Nitecore D11 V2 , I like my EX10 ...

Now I have to know ....

Actually the piston seems to be the same size. Its the body that looks a little off. I dont mind it since it still tail stands (an absolute requirement in my edc). I was just trying to note the differences in the two versions. Technically the quality is still there in both lights, I just dont like that I have two versions of supposedly the same light.

I will check it eventually. Even so, it SHOULD be the same since it SHOULD have the same driver, same led (possible 7% difference), and running on the same type of battery (batteries were of the same age).

I had 2 versions of the D11v2 the first one had "Smart PD D11 R5" on the head and unfortunately i fried the circuit with a reverse polarity brain fart :( , ordered another as replacement (around a week after receiving the first) and it has "Smart PD D11 V2 R5" on the head. Both where ordered from the same seller and both had fairly stable tail stand ability (though not as good as the D10) i didn't have much time for testing although i did test current draw on low , the "Smart PD D11 R5" read 9.68ma on lowest setting while the replacement "Smart PD D11 V2 R5" reads 7.69ma again on lowest setting both lights using a 3v lithium primary. Difficult to say if the lows where the same level without a side by side comparison.

One thing i should mention is the Nitecore customer service, i emailed Nitecore asking if they would sell me a replacement driver circuit and explained that i had fried mine by putting a cell in the wrong way (not covered by warranty of course!) they replied to say that they do not sell parts but if i let them know exactly what is broken they would quote an estimate for repair, i did as they asked again stating how i had broken my light and they replied to say they would be happy to repair or replace the light with no cost to myself except the cost of returning it to China! big up the Nitecore customer service

EDIT:- regarding the v10r , i emailed Sunwayman about the apparent differences between the runtime's stated on their website (aluminium v10r listed as 100hr on low Ti listed as 35hr!) here is a part of their reply "those on website are early data, and we found too low output is not practical so we adjust to 35hrs, all lights in the market are 35hrs, both V10R and V10R Ti, they are exactly same circuit." Having seen a review where the aluminium version had a blatantly higher low i am not sure what to think, perhaps they changed the driver and the reviewer had one of each? my v10r ti draws 17.6ma on lowest and with a +- 1500mah CR123 should last around 85hrs and is so low i can look at the emitter quite comfortably.
