It’s May Day Holiday over there, so once again we have a National Vacation day standing in our way and creating havoc. The next couple of days should show people trickling in back to work, hung over and sending out excuses but back at work.
You guys crack me up. Now everyone’s like “Don’t bother him or he’s gonna get mad.” Nothing wrong with asking questions.
As Dale mentioned, May Day is just winding down in China. Holidays over there are different. A one day holiday seems to mean 4-7 days of delayed business. Simon just sent me a string of emails over the last few hours and now I’d imagine he’s sleeping so no more will come until tomorrow. I don’t have a listing date to announce yet but I imagine it should be any day.
I did get the very good news that Simon found a source for neutral XHP70 emitters in Hong Kong. I don’t know the exact tint/bin yet but he said 5000K which is what I was asking for so this should be good. He said he will be purchasing them after May Day. More news when I have it. Cheers!
I’ve been trying to decide if I really “need” a new monster flashlight, and if so, whether to get this L6, the S70, or wait on Miller’s Q6.
But this:

is making my decision easier. I guess I’m in for one, as soon as neutral is available! Thanks for the updates!
I have a question regarding the batteries. Will this light support both protected and unprotected cells, and if so, which ones would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
I’m not the best person to recommend batteries but Simon told me he tested this light using KeepPower 5200mAh cells. He also included several pictures.
In the picture below the L6 is posing with two KeepPower 5200mAh protected cells so I’m going to guess that those are the cells he used so it should support both protected and unprotected cells. Keep in mind of course that whatever cells you buy have to run in series so completely flat top cells will not work unless you use a magnet or something to make the connection from cell to cell. Some flat top cells are raised just enough to run in series. I think the purple Efest 26650 may fall into that category. Good stores like Mountain Electronics will usually state in the battery listing if a flat top cell is raised enough on the positive end to be run in series. Seeing as this is a current controlled driver based light I do not think you’d see any real gains by going ultra-hi-drain versus something with good capacity.
I’ll let the more experienced people take it from here and correct me if I misspoke in any of this.
Edit: Dale will probably be able to post numbers from a few different cells when he receives his but probably only in the unprotected varieties.
I don’t think you’ll find many protected cells at Dale’s house.
Hey! I resemble that remark! I’ll have you to know I have 5! Three AW Protected 18650 1600mAh in my Solarforce S2200, one in my wife’s PD’1, and one in my son’s little EDC from his grandpa. So there.
(I think that comes out to about 2% of my cells are protected. )

+1 Yes! 5000K please !!
That would surely seal the deal for me

HA! Well sir… I stand corrected. 2% corrected to be exact. I have a few protected cells as well. One in my son’s blue S2+ and the other in my wife’s purse… in her red S2+ if we’re being specific.
I really like the new design style of L2 and L6, but I like my C8 for it’s size and features. Is it possible in the future that the L series will be extended with a C8 size little brother? I think the lot of fins on the head of L2 and L6 is also will be good in that size and looks very nice in a single 18650 form. And I think a lot of people will buy it if Simon make it. Just an idea

Hey,
just a tip: get a Kronos X6/BLF X6-SE if you need a very compact yet very powerful single 18650 pocket thrower.

Without wishing to create controversy. Out of those who want a particular led tint. I do not understand the much excitement with this flashlight. In my opinion the Thorfire S70 is better for some reasons…
Built-in voltage indicator on the mode button
Big head, throw more.
More accessories included.
Cheaper.
S0S mode. It is always better to have it than not having it, and with more reason when it is hidden.

Well the S70 is the biggest competitor for sure. Let´s be honest both lights will be very similar (and look very similar). Maybe the L6 will probably have a few more lumens out of the box but I don´t expect to be a huge (visible) difference, since many reviewers have reported the S70 goes way beyond the claimed 3000 lumens. it´s also easily moddable (as the L6 will be too of course).
The S70 is more on the floody side, maybe the L6 is more of a thrower. So everyone can pick his prefered torch. Win/Win
I´m sure as soon as the light is available comparison reviews will surface quickly!

I need some time, and to take some pics but absolutely. It out throws the BLF D80 with XM-L2 and A17DD.
Sorry, I meant Freeme and the L6.
But if you want to do a review that would be good too.
Andrew that’s Simon holding the light, not Freeme. The light isn’t listed for sale yet but it will be any time now. It’s a pretty safe bet that one of the first reviews will be coming from a photographer friend of mine.

That’s not it.
We just want him focused on “Big Mo”. The mother of all flashlights.
We should have a contest for a nickname for this new monster.

Great question, especially for those of us who intent to use the stock/unmoddified version!
There will always be more darkness than I have lights.

At rough count I have around 220 cells.

The “extra mile” would have a foam top on it as well, protecting the entire light in the box.
Just saying!
Looks nice, like the extra size on the head, can’t wait to try one out!
