Budget Electric bike lighting suggestions (and electric bike mini review)

So I stumbled across a deal I couldn’t turn down… It was a 2015 diamondback lindau exc. It has a 48v lion battery and a 500 watt motor. And talk about a steal - MSRP was $2,500 but I paid $1099!

The battery is 1.5 years old, with zero exercise? The indicator just blinks, but it still charges in the requisition amount of time. The online manual indicates it could be a connection error, I checked and don’t see any. They warranted the battery, waiting on another one now.

The bike flat flies: 20mph (33kph) without pedalling, and will assist up to 28mph (44kph) with hard pedalling and full throttle. 30 mile distance on a full charge with some effort from the rider.

But about the lighting. The bike is pre-wired for a headlight and taillight, @ 6v with a preferred max of 5w.
The only choices I have found are high dollar stuff from Peter white cycles… Should I attempt to build something? 5w on 6v is low… Not even an amp.
And what runs at 6v? Xhp series lights?

Got an idea?

I can’t help you with a light, but could you please post a link for your bike?

It sounds like I might want one too!

I haven’t done any 6V emitters, but the MTG2 and the XHP 50 are 6V emitters…

Sounds like you found a deal on that bike! I would like to try one out for sure, but the prices are less than a good used motorcycle in most cases…

Well Chuck it is slightly more possible for you to obtain one, as this was in fort lauderdale… but they only had 3 bikes total; a men’s large, a women’s large and some sort of off road looking thing that didn’t interest me. i bought the men’s, which leaves the woman’s bike and the offroad thing. the offroad thing was like $3400 down to $1399, and the other two were $2499 down to $1099. This was at performance bikes off us 1 in fort lauderdale.

I would imagine it’s unlikely you’ll find this deal elsewhere. I am under the impression electric bikes now come from electric bike stores, and that traditional bike stores stick to traditional bikes. Performance bikes is a traditional bike store, but they seemed to have bought 3 electric bikes at the beginning of last year, and none of them moved, so they are now heavily discounted to blow them out. I suspect people didn’t go into performance bike looking for an E-bike.

This is the bike I speak of.

Performance bike’s website isn’t store specific, so they list 5 e-bikes, but none of them are in stock at my location, and none of the bikes that are in stock at my location (all diamondbacks) aren’t listed. none of the bikes that are listed show such a steep discount.

Personally I would stick to an ordinary bike light and battery pack or just a flashlight and save all of the bike’s battery for range.
Any 5w led is not going to give much light :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers David

Thank you.

I really appreciate it.
