One of these days I’m going to learn to keep my mouth shut when I don’t want to get compliments or de-rail threads.
It’s like the kid who took orchestra class for a few years and can play violin better than anyone in an average pub, but they wouldn’t make the cut for a serious orchestra. I’m that kid, not the acclaimed concert solo violinist. And I’m totally okay with that; I’m not looking for praise or reassurance. It’d get boring doing the same thing long enough to get to an expert level.
Edit: I’m‘a just be quiet now, since I suspect I may be trying to get out of quicksand by flailing. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled forum tech discussions. BLF is pretty much back to its former level of functionality, but this time with some pretty sweet upgrades. And I’m pretty sure SB sprained some part of his brain with all those long hours of PHP code. This kind of injury only be treated with copious amounts of beer.
Well, not exactly. I pointed out the problem of accidental log-outs, especially when using portable devices. You’re the one who came up with the idea of putting the log-out in a separate window.

FWIW we’re currently on 30 per page. Unfortunately SB has mentioned that the new forum software version seems to have severely broken this functionality. It’s on SB’s radar that we’d like to have adjustable (10-300) posts per page the feature back if/when possible.
For my own part I previously browsed on 30-per-page and only adjusted upwards to 300 when I needed help finding a specific post in a larger thread. The current thread-search functionality works better for that so I’m quite happy with 30.
I may have missed this, but is there any plans to allow more then 40 posts per page?
It’s currently at 30. The reason for that is due to the former default of 30, and most of the old links that users have posted to specific posts in a thread are relative to a 30 posts/page scheme. So by maintaining it at 30 most of the old links are finally working still work.
I was thinking about adding another tab at the top of each thread for a very long 300 posts/page overview with no images or formatting, kind of like the “mobile view” that some forum platforms have. This would kill two birds with one stone, also being useful for users that like to save long threads for offline viewing.

I remember that being a bug in the old version,. Also i liked 300 except the what you got today and home depot deals thread because they would take several minutes to load

Any chance of having back the <Mark Read> button in the top right of each subforum?
Thank you Very Much,
George
Hey there George, we tried that briefly, but it mislead some users into thinking that it would only mark that forum category as read, when in reality it marks the whole thing as read.

Greetings & Salutations SB,
Did you have that cold one?. Was it a beer, &/or wine, &/or coffee, &/or root beer, &/or whatever else you fancy?
Yes, AFAIK I was the one that first reported the ?problem. And then you shifted it to only the forum's "root" page.
But in the past you had a <Mark Read> button at the top right of each subforum which ONLY marked as read the current sub-forum (& Not its own sub-forums Nor ANY other sub-forums).
May be the new button could be called something like <Mark All Topics Read> Or <Mark this Forum Read> Or?
Right now, once I have read the threads/posts I find interesting, I have to:
1). Go to bottom of page
2). Click on "Forum Tools" menu
3). Select "Mark All Topics Read"
Instead of just clicking a <Mark All Topics Read> button at the webpage's top right, as was able to do in BLF's previous incarnation.
Thank you Very Much for all your Greatly Appreciated work,
I just want to add that I hate the font of “edit-comment-body-und-0-value” but I will go over that because I love this forum
I suspect that the issue has more to do with the monospace font that your system uses. For reference, here’s what mine looks like with the “Ubuntu” monospace font specified in my system settings:
I noticed that the "Edited on date, time" line at the bottom of a thread's OP which appeared if it had been edited, has now gone missing (was present until a ~2-3 days ago).
That entry was Very useful, as it allowed us to check when a thread's OP was last edited. Particularly as often a thread is marked as updated, But there is no "View xx new" link.
Any chance of getting it back?
And any comment(s) on my response to your reply re the <Mark Read> button?
About the “Mark read” button, I’m almost positive that it was never able to mark just a single category as read. It was all or nothing.
The “edited” stamp was removed because it was getting changed as a result of the new email notification system. I think I might have worked around it now, and I re-enabled the “edited” stamp. But please let me know if you see posts marked as “edited” by a user that didn’t start the thread.

G'Day SB,
FYI, I used the the "Mark read" button in the previous BLF incarnation ever since I joined (April'2014), & I assure you it Only marked a "single category"/subforum as read. VERY Useful!!
Re the a thread's OP "edited" stamp, I shall keep an eye on the threads, & report any issue(s) I notice.
Can we fix the signature looking like part of the post problem, i forget how it was done before but now signatures don’t have a clear psychological separation from posts (was it just more spaces before?)

Can we fix the signature looking like part of the post problem, i forget how it was done before but now signatures don’t have a clear psychological separation from posts (was it just more spaces before?)
FWIW, this is relatively simple with a few lines of CSS. Here’s what I’m using:
/* signature at the end of each post */
div.clear {
/* display: none; */ /* in case you want no signatures at all */
margin: 6px 0 0 0 !important;
padding: 0 !important;
font-size: 80%; /* make the text smaller by default */
border-top: 1px solid #555 !important;
}
div.clear div:not([class]) { /* get rid of '--' divider at top of signature */
display: none;
}
Also, what do you think of adding TLF (TaschenLampen Forum) to the Related Sites links? I come across them quite often when doing google searches for various flashlights: http://www.taschenlampen-forum.de/

Thanks very much ToyKeeper! Looks great. I just implemented this style. Now, is there any way to convince Bort to remove the huge blank vertical space at the end of his signature?

Hey, SB!
I just went to click on My Account, overshot it, and clicked the wrong spot. Oh, oh … I just accidentally logged out.
But, no, I was still logged in!
On closer inspection, I see that you’ve provided a separate window for logging out, just like you said that you would.
Thanks! No more accidental log-outs!

Hmm...
Looks like the banner advertisements on BLF are disabled (Banggood, DealExtreme, & FastTech).

How to move a thread
Yep, I’m trying to pin down the source of some sporadically high CPU spikes. The ads are re-enabled now.
