XM-l2 onto an XP-g2 board question

Hello,

I’m trying to double check if I can reflow an XM-L2 led onto a board with an XP-G2 on it? I thought, previously, you had to make a pad extension of sorts. An XP-L will be the same size as an XP-G2 pads, right?

Thanks for the clarification.

Nick

XP-L is a XM-L2 die on a XP size package. It will work perfectly for what you’re trying to do. I don’t know about reflowing a XM-L2 onto a XP board. If it can be done, there is probably at least one build thread around here that shows how! But, if you have or can get a XP-L, why bother with trying to get the XM-L2 to fit?

Well, good point. I just happened to buy a mess of XM-L2 U3 in a few tints for most of my lights. I only have a few XP-G lights and I have pills for those I usually just swap. But, I suppose ordering a few more XP-L can’t hurt! Its a bummer though, because its been 2 weeks and my order still isn’t in! Hate waiting.

I think, and I’m not 100% but I think I saw, some time ago, a guy cut small pieces of copper to extend the pads on an XM-L2 (or XM-L?) to fit the XP board’s pads. This may have been a while ago, when boards weren’t as easy to get? Or maybe it was a light with a unique board, similar to what I’ve run across.

Thanks for the reply, I think you are 100% on.
