No. The firmware is completely unrelated to C-to-C charging. That’s entirely a hardware matter, and cannot be affected by firmware on the attiny85.

As for firmware though, some changes relevant to the lantern are:

  • 2019-09-24: Added version check function (15+ clicks from off), and an automatic ramp-down if button is stuck.
  • 2019-09-28: Added automatic lockout if button remains stuck long enough.
  • 2019-10-02: Increased brightness of LT1’s muggle mode ceiling.
  • 2019-11-18: Added SOS mode.
  • 2019-11-19/20: Rewrote interrupt handling system to fix several infrequent issues like occasionally missing a button click while asleep. This also changed how it handles electrical noise conditions, by making it attempt to boot normally after an error instead of staying in a blinking error mode.
  • 2019-11-29: Adjusted LT1 tint ramping brightness correction formula (was using measurements from a prototype, adjusted to match people’s reported values for production units).
  • 2019-12-03: Adjusted LT1 tint ramping brightness correction again, based on more accurate measurements. Should keep power use and brightness closer to flat while changing the tint now.
  • 2020-03-16: Rewrote all ADC-related code. Almost no effect on the lantern though; basically it should just make voltage readouts more stable.
  • 2020-04-13: Recalibrated internal timing loop; time-based functions like strobe and beacon should be a little more accurate now.

There were lots of other changes too, but not relevant to the lantern.

Just to verify, its the 3.18.2020_BLF Lantern file here correct?

Yes, that one should include all the changes up to 2020-03-16.

nick779 3.18.2020_BLF Lantern, is the file I used.

I am interested in the C to C charging.
I’m not up to scratch on this tech but that sounds to me like power bank functionality.

If you want the same discount as the group buy — Sofirn is making this possible on their web site .. Selling the BLF LT1 for 49.99. As the web site states — This is for a very limited time .. So If you want one — Here’s where to order:

I intended to comment yesterday but forgot:

“Thanks for the link. I ordered two.”

Finally pulled the trigger on this. As a diehard camper (many times solo), I’m really looking forward to receiving this.

Currently I have a Coleman propane lantern (large, delicate, propane is bulky, noisy), a Coleman LED 4xD battery lantern (large, batteries suck, cold white), and some cheap Amazon 4xAA (bare cold white LEDs makes for extremely harsh light).

This should blow them out of the water!

The BLF LT1 is safe to charge with my Ipad’s 2.4 amp, 12W power adapter right? I also have a couple of Anker Powerport PD2 wall chargers, will they be also fine to use with my blf lantern?

Yes, any of those chargers should work fine charging the LT1.

Awesome. Thanks for creating this light man! We’ve been using it almost every night on its lowest brightness mode when we’re watching movies. It’s nice to be able to see our snacks and find the remote when needed.

I plan to order with batteries, four batteries for an extra $10-$12 is a deal.

I had plenty of batteries around when I ordered mine, so I ordered without. But the deal with batteries is good if you need them.

C to C

I don’t know if I know what it means but here is what I observed.
I acquired a C to C cable, a C to lightning cable and a C charger.
My wife has an android phone with a C connector I have an apple.
I tested each device with higher and lower state of charge than the device connected to it.
With the C to lightning connector no matter which device was higher or lower no current would pass between the iphone and the LT1.
With the C to C cable between the LT1 and the android phone the phone would always charge the lantern no mater which device had the higher state of charge.

The lantern does not act as a power bank. It doesn’t charge other devices. The lantern’s USB port is meant only for charging the lantern.

I understand that but the there was some talk earlier in the thread about powerbank functionality in a future iteration.

Then there was this from a Sofirn Rep.

Will that be able to do C-C or still A – C

we are hoping the C-to-C will work with this updated batch.

There are old firmware and the lasted fireware in batch 3. If you want to get LT1 lantern with the latest firmware which supports USBC to USBC and USBA-USBC charging, please tell us in your order.

Not knowing exactly what this meant It got my wishful thinking up. So I decided to do some experiments of my own to determine what it meant if anything.

It just means the new batch is compatible with charging cables that have a USB-C connector on both ends.

It’s graphical ui (I never did get any of the text based ones figured out)
I used one called progisp 1.72
there is a button to select the chip
then under “file” select load flash then navigate to your hex file
connect your chip clip and then hit the “auto” button
there is a place on the bottom of the window that reports progress or errors

it does a lot of other stuff that I know nothing about, but this was all I had to do to re-prog, the Lt1 a Q8 an fw3a and several convoys.

Took all of 5 minutes but it was a little off putting when Sofirn comes in here and states you only have to ask for the latest and when you ask you still dont get it.

But its more than that I have not had Sofirn get a single order right all year.
I ordered a SP10s w/batt and charger, did not get the batt and charger.
I ordered Q8 Anduril I received the older style Q8 with the flats on the body and Narsil UI.
Do they even bother to do more than glance at the orders?
I do appreciate the great lights at great prices, that’s why I keep giving them my money but for gods sake will it cost them money to get it right?

I am sorry for this issue. This year we employed more people to take charge of shipping to advoid shipping wrong items in busy time. Any issue about order, pls contact our customer service and we will reply as soon as possible.

Sadly my lanterns have one of the first fimware versions, I don’t know which exactly but they don’t have SOS yet.
I know that the driver has a set of data contacts, but where can I get this connector to flash the newest firmware?

I got a email from PayPal with my receipt but that has been it.

My order was made on the official online store sofirn on March 21, 2020, sent on March 27, 2020, and today it passed customs in my country.

I know lexel has a board for a programming “key” and maybe he has them on hand and can build you one if you don’t want to diy. You still need the usbisp

But I think more useful and what I used, was an soic 8 test clip with usbisp connected together dupont style breadboard jumpers.
You have to take out 2 screws and flip the driver to access the chip to do it this way.

I placed an order for two via the sofirn website on 19 April and paid via paypal but still haven’t received order confirmation or any message at all about the order.

Neither did I, but if you login to your account, click on your name in top left, then click on Orders, it should show order status and tracking number.

Thanks. I just checked there and the order shows items shipped 23 April and shows both the origin carrier and final mile carrier (fedex) tracking numbers.

are you using postal.ninja for tracking? searching duckduckgo for “China Post” gave like 20 results. finally found postal.ninja which actually works for tracking.
i purchased at 11th april. last movement was

Apr 19, 2020 08:36 YANWEN Logistics Shipment information sent to FedEx

number is not found in fedex yet. hoping it’s just waiting to clear China’s customs and not being literally “shipped”.

I typically check progress on 17track.net periodically and when it reaches the us carrier I check progress on that carrier’s tracking system.
